Battlers Fall at No.19 Wheeling Jesuit 34-10

WHEELING, W.Va. - The Alderson Broaddus wrestling team dropped its first match of the season when it fell at No.19 Wheeling Jesuit 34-10 Thursday night.
The Battlers picked up a pair of wins on the evening in the defeat. To open things out, Breandan Coughlin accepted a forfeit in the opening match at the 125-pound weight class to give AB a 6-0 lead.
In the next four matches, the Cardinals won a pair of major decisions and added a technical fall and a pin to push the lead to 19-6 halfway through the match. In the 165-pound weight class, Keith Stednitz had a tough battle but fell to Nic Skonieczny 6-2.
After Davis Solak lost 9-4 in the following weight class, Cody Spinks got the Battlers back on the board for the final time in the match when he had a convincing 15-4 major decision win at the 184-pound class to make it 25-10.
In the final two matches on the night, Nate Starkey of Wheeling Jesuit topped Jake Bennett 3-1 and then Brady Estep was pinned in 4:15 to close out of the match.
The team will return to action Saturday when it travels to Southern Virginia to compete in the Casperson Classic.
