AB Drops Decision to No. 2 Notre Dame College

February 6, 2015

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Alderson Broaddus sophomore Keith Stednitz toppled defending national champion Jon Rivera as the Battlers dropped a 43-3 decision to No. 2 Notre Dame College Friday night.

Stednitz opened the match with a takedown, but Rivera scored an escape and a take down to take a 3-2 lead into the second period. Stednitz rode Rivera out for the entire second period.

In the third period, Stednitz started on bottom moved Rivera to his back, but was called for an illegal move to put Stednitz ahead 5-4. Stednitz rode Rivera out to earn the bonus point and a 6-4 victory.

"Keith win is not only a big win for him, but a big win for our young program," said head coach Mitch Smith." This type of win shows that our program can go against the best in the country and come out with big wins like this. I know Keith believes he can accomplish great things, but for him it's going to come down to being consistent in his wrestling if he does that then he could be on top of the podium in March. I know Keith win was the highlight of this night, but Friday was the best fight I have seen in our program and it couldn't have come at a better time."

The Battlers will be back in action on Thursday in their final home contest of the season. AB will honor senior Sam Jones and honorary coach Dee Phelps.
