AB Falls at West Virginia Tech

MONTGOMERY, W.Va. – The Alderson Broaddus wrestling team fought back but fell to West Virginia Tech 25-18 Tuesday night.
After Cody Buchanan lost a hard-fought decision 10-9 at 125, AB (9-4) forfeited its match at 133 and the Golden Bears (6-12) took an early 9-0 advantage. Micah Powell defeated Robert Pritt 4-2 at 141 to cut the lead to 9-3 for the Battlers in the following match. Zachary Gwinn wrestled for the Battlers at 149 but lost the 12-7 decision and West Virgina Tech took a 12-3 lead.
Jason West won his decision 10-5 over Conrad Lacey at 157 while Keith Stednitz pinned Corey Palmer in the final seconds (6:58) to tie the match at 12-12. At 174, Colton Rowe finished with a major decision over Davis Solak 14-5 to give the Golden Bears a 16-12 lead but Cody Spinks earned the forfeit at 184 to put AB on top 18-16.
But that was the final match the Battlers would win on the night. Nathan Cunningham was pinned at 197 in 58 seconds and Nick Nester dropped the heavyweight bout 3-2 to close out the night.
AB will wrestle its final match of the season when they host Ohio Valley Saturday
