AB Wrestling Posts Five Finalists and Two Champions at USCAA National Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Gino Sita and Jared Burgoyne each earned individual championships as the Alderson Broaddus wrestling team placed five wrestlers into the finals at the USCAA National Invitational.

Burgoyne went topped Joe Carbone in his semifinal match and then posted a victory over Russ Pierce in the finals. Sita claimed the top spot going 3-0 in the 174 pound weight class.

Curtis Cox (133), Tyler Bauer (157) and Nick Sulhoff (165) also reached the finals for the Battlers.

AB had four other place winners on the day. Levi Hobbs notched a third place finish at 149 defeating teammate Camren Ritchey. Derek Schmidt added a fourth place finish at 174 and Daniel Sherrard finished fifth at 285.

The Battlers had a pair of wrestlers score multiple wins on Sunday. Mert Gulen got his first fall of the year as he went 2-2 at 184 and Breandan Coughlin went 2-1 on the day at 125.

"I thought our guys wrestled well today," said head coach Sam Gardner. "I was happy for Mert [Gulen] to get on the mat and score his first fall of the season using the curious salamander. This was a nice step for us as we prepared for the NCAA Regional this Friday."

The Battlers travel to Coker on Friday for the NCAA Regional.
