Stough Named Coach

August 20, 2015

MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - WVU Tech athletics director Kenneth Howell has announced the appointment of Dustin Stough as head wrestling coach. Stough moved from being the Golden Bears' interim head coach to officially taking the reigns beginning August 15.

"Dustin did a wonderful job last year of holding our team together after a coaching change to start the season," stated Howell.

Last season, Stough took over the program in November and helped lead the team to the USCAA National Wrestling Invitational Championship with six individual Golden Bear champions. Tech finished with 157.5 team points to come out on top in a championship that saw individuals from 11 different schools. Every Golden Bear entered in the tournament came away with at least one victory.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to continue to coach a great group of wrestlers," proclaimed Stough. "This season I hope to continue our success as a team and repeat as USCAA National Champions. I also hope to have my first national qualifiers and All-Americans this year."

Stough comes to Tech from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania where he was a student-assistant coach. At Wilkes, he helped the team go 18-3 for 2013-14 season. The Colonels placed a wrestler on the NCAA All-American team and made it to the NCAA Championships.

As a Colonel, Stough wrestled at 174 for his final three seasons, finishing his senior year 16-14. In his junior year, Stough finished with a third place finish during the Metropolitan Conference Championships.

Stough, a native of Friendsville, Maryland, received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Wilkes University.

Howell on Stough, "it's very helpful in recruiting and relating to student-athletes to have a strong young coach who has an engineering background as well."
