Notes from Coach Doyle

Sean Doyle, Head Coach
Wheeling Jesuit University

July 10, 2014

We hope that you are enjoying the summer and finding some time to relax! Our summer at Wheeling Jesuit has been filled with great events, news and big projects. Most importantly we wanted to update all of our family and friends of the program on the recent activities and keep you informed on the upcoming season. It is our #1 goal to fill the McDonough Center for all of our home matches next year and build on the electric atmosphere that was created last season.

Wrestling Room Expansion
We have raised the necessary funds to begin the expansion of the wrestling room. With over 40 wrestlers on the current roster, we asked to expand the room. Through some great fundraising efforts and many generous donations, we will renovate our current room to a new room that will measure 100ft by 50ft giving us 5,000 square feet of space to work with. Resilite will complete the project in early September and the room will be ready for our first practice in October. Thanks to all that made donations to help make this possible. Specifically thanks to the Wheeling Wrestling Club/Greater Wheeling Area Small Fry Wrestling League and The Circus Saints and Sinners Club Wheeling Tent for very generous gifts to make this possible.

Grapple at the Garden
On December 21st, 2014 our wrestlers will compete at the Grapple at the Garden at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City. What an incredible and monumental experience our team will get competing in one of the most famous sporting venues in the world. Our opponent has not been finalized yet, but Northern Iowa and George Mason have been mentioned as possibilities. It goes without saying that we are extremely excited about this opportunity to promote our program and create lasting memories for our young men. Please check for future emails about the event. We will be taking charters to New York City for family and friends of the program. Christmas in NYC with the chance to watch the #cardinalculture in action, you don't want to miss it!

Wheeling Jesuit's Inaugural Camp HUGE SUCCESS!
June 22-26, we held our first ever Wheeling Jesuit Wrestling Camp. Over 220 young men and women found their way to the campus of Wheeling Jesuit to experience a fantastic camp led by Kyle Dake, Harry Lester and Jeff Bedard. The camp was an unbelievable week filled with great instruction, competition and most importantly a great deal of fun for all involved. We are already in preparation for next year and in conversation with some of the best clinicians to be on the campus of WJU next summer.

Thanks to all of you that have supported us through our first year. We wouldn't be where we are if it weren't for support of our family and friends. This program is in a great position to move forward and start making an impact at the national level. Our wrestlers expect to be competing at a national level and with the support of you, we will get their and hope to have a large fan base with us! Please follow us on Twitter @wjuwrestling, Facebook at Wheeling Jesuit Wrestling and on Instagram WJUWrestling. At next month's NWCA Convention, we hope to take home the NWCA's Best of Brand "Top Newcomer" Award! Have a great rest of your week and upcoming weekend.
