Here's the line for December 1, 1997 ...

Don't look for Adam Shank to return to the Parkersburg South lineup this year.

Fortunately for Ritchie County, Jason Hayhurst has not transferred to Parkersburg High. As of Thanksgiving week he was still a student at Ritchie County High School.

Two A/AA wrestlers that were injured prior to last year's state tournament were Josh Cross of Wirt County and Bouge Parrish of Cameron. If both wrestlers remain healthy, watch out!

Speaking of Josh Cross, it looks like he'll be at 119 this year, and possibly at 125. In fact, the entire Wirt County team has grown in the past nine months, and most of the team could be moving up at least one weight class.

There's been a lot of talk about Matt George of Parkersburg High. He's a product of the successful Parkersburg Cougars and, more recently, the Patriot Wrestling Club. He'll be joined at PHS this year by a couple of other promising sophomores, Brandon Williams and Jason Trusty.

Another sophomore with a lot of potential is Mike Bosley of Parkersburg South. Mike is the son of 2x state champion Steve Bosley and is also a former member of the Patriot Wrestling Club.

Information is limitied at such an early date, so this week's column has focused on Wood, Wirt, and Ritchie Counties. As the season progresses, more information will be available on teams from as many parts of the state as possible.

Next week look for a wrap up of the Cabell Midland-Parkersburg South season-opening dual.

Thanks to the following sources:
Coach Tim McCartney, Parkersburg South
Frank Burton, Wirt County
Erin Richards, Ritchie County
