Toppers Top Scots

Parkersburg, W. Va.—The Fighting Scots took on the Hilltoppers of West Liberty University held at the Parkersburg High School Field House. Ohio Valley lost to West Liberty 33-13. With this loss, the Scots fall to a dual record of 3-3.
OVU was hindered by injuries and weight management issues in tonight's dual, forfeiting 125lbs., 133lbs., and 141lbs. weight classes, which put them down early, 18-0.
Sam Phillips (149lbs.) faced Cole Nace for the first match of the evening. Phillips controlled the first half of the match grabbing 6 points, but Nace was able to out maneuver Phillips and get the major decision victory (14-6/7:00).
Nicholoz Varazashvlvilli (157lbs.) squared off against West Liberty's Schileper. Nicholoz was down 5-4 late in the third period. With 10 seconds left, Varazashvlvilli rolled his opponent in a 3 point near pinning position jumping out to 7-5 lead at the buzzer. The Hilltoppers got 1 point for riding time as the final score was 7-6, Nicoholoz (7-6/7:00).
Steward Morris (165lbs.) battled a tough opponent of his own, but he was able to control the match. West Liberty's Windland fought back and trailed 11-6 headed into the third period. A late take down gave Morris 3 more points to secure the major decision win at the buzzer (14-6).
Zach Willard (174lbs.) battled one of the Hilltoppers' best wrestlers DeMadre Ward. Willard lost to Ward by technical fall (15-0/3:53). Austin Antill (184lbs.) lost to Dan Carpenter in a regular decision. Antill and Crapenter were equal throughout the match until Carpenter got a quick 3 points from a take down and an escape (3-0/7:00).
Parkersburg native Tyler Koreski (197lbs.) lost to his opponent by regular decision. Koreski strategy was thrown off by VandenBossche's hype and determination. Tyler attempted to close VanderBossche's lead but time ran out (10-4/7:00).
West Liberty forfeited the 285lbs weight class, which gave Dane Mills the win. Tonight's match was OVU's last match at home for the season.
Ohio Valley will participate in the Mount Union Invitational on Sunday January 17th at 9am.
