George Wins Second Straight Wrestling Tournament

Alliance, Ohio – Dalton George (Williamstown, W.Va.) won his second straight tournament Sunday as he slayed the Mount Union Open. 

George won three matches by majority decision in his five victories on the day. The meet featured some division one opponents such as Ohio State, Ohio University and Cleveland State University.

George defeated Fritz Schierl by a 7-3 score to secure the 165 weight class win.  George now has an impressive 23-3 record on the season.  George was the first Fighting Scots wrestler to win the Mount Union Open meet. Anthony Tripke (North Port, Fla.) was the only other wrestler to place for the Scots as he won three matches on the day and finished in fifth place at the 125 lb. weight class. 

Tripke lost his first match of the day but battled back through the consolation rounds and won three straight before falling in the consolation semi-finals.

Maverick Meeks (New Philadelphia, Ohio) 1-1, Sam Phillips (Parkersburg, W.Va.), 1-1, Eli Stewart (Goode, Va.) , Nicholoz Varazashvlvilli (Columbus, Ohio) 1-2, Tyler Koreski (Parkersburg, W.Va.) 1-2 all posted at least one win on the weekend.

Coach Pat Sole commented, "Really proud of the way the team competed this weekend against quality competition.  It is exciting to see them compete at this high level and do well." Levi Congleton, (Belpre, Ohio), Hagan Root (Elizabeth, W.Va.), Zach Willard (Fort Myers, Fla.), Ben Willard (Fort Myers, Fla.) all participated for Ohio Valley.

The team will return to action on Saturday at the West Virginia Intercollegiate Tournament held at West Liberty University, time has yet to be determined.
