Lambiotte Finishes Fourth at Purple Raider Open

Alliance, OH - Freshman T.J. Lambiotte (Mineral Wells, West Virginia) continued his impressive freshman campaign by finishing fourth at the Purple Open on Sunday. Lambiotte was able to amass a 3-2 record on his way to the fourth place finish in the 165 lb. weight class.

Lambiotte was able to pin Taylor Workman and post a major decision against Kam Bush in his run to the semi-finals. However, in the semifinals he was pinned by Cody Burcher from Ohio State. After the loss to Burcher, T.J. was able to pin Connor Homan of Mount Union before losing in the third place match to Sage Castillo from Central Michigan on a pin at 1:58.

197 pounder Tyler Koreski (Parkersburg, West Virginia) finished just off the podium places with a 4-2 record. Koreski was able to win his first match of the day with 4-3 decision over Jake Kleimola from Indiana. After losing his second round match in a technical fall to Landon Pelhmam from Central Michigan, he would run off three straight wins with a pin, major decision, and a decision. His bid to stand on the podium was stopped though by a pin of Brad Wilton from Michigan St.

Junior Anthony Tripke also had a productive day in the 125 lb. class as he finished at 2-2 for the meet. After losing his first round match, he was able to bounce back and get decisions over Jake Fankhouser of PSU Behrend 7-3 and Trent Gill of Mount Union 6-3.

Sam Phillips 157 lb. (Parkersburg, West Virginia) and Ali Copabianco Jr. (Albrightsville, Pennsylvania) were also able to post single wins on the day. Also wrestling for the Scots but not able to secure a victory were Zach Willard (Fredericksburg, Virginia) and Ben Willard (Fort Myers, Florida)

Next match for the grapplers will be Wednesday, as they will travel to Beckley to take on WVU Tech with wrestling scheduled to being at 6 PM.
