Re: Information Sharing - WSAZ Finalist Seed Count

Ah statistics, math for liars lol. You could look at this many ways, one being a pareto chart where 1/2 are front loaded as you would hope. You could also look at the standard deviation (~2.854) and see that there are 2 outside of three standard deviations. Since 99.7% of your data should be within ...

Re: AAA 182 Pill 3 = Pill 2. Pill 1 is Bad News

Anytime you have 3 (or even 4) top tier wrestlers in a region you're asking for potential bracket chaos on the first night. That being said, I'm not sure I've seen someone complain about seeding and the pill in the same day before lol.

Re: Regional Seeding

I understand what you're saying. I had just thought of something similar when I noticed Spring Mills in a recent series of dual meets had shifted their lineup somewhat with Dolan and Jackson and others moving up weight classes. I hadn't really thought of the "regional strategy" you are sp...

Re: New State Tournament format

Actually, that is not entirely true. Advancing from the semis to the finals delivers a huge point boost to the team of the individual advancing. Conversely, falling in the semi finals denies the necessary team points to catch the leaders. Also, unbalanced brackets are definitely created by the pill...

Re: New State Tournament format

In regards to Football and Basketball playoff rankings. Football uses a points system that awards points for wins. Winning against a team in a higher classification earns you additional points (i.e. AA beating AAA) and beating a lower classified score earns you less. It's a fair system in it's own w...

Re: Scores / Rankings / Recognition

Today, January 5th, I was contacted by Assistant Wrestling Coach John Ferens of Fairmont State. His request was simple. He asked if I could add the wrestlers' grades to the rankings. Coach Ferens told me that Fairmont State is interested in getting wrestlers on their roster from WV. I was able to q...

Re: Bearhugger's preseason State tournament prediction

It's hard to tell for sure without seeing how the weights will shake out, but it looks like the team race could be tight this year between St. Albans, South, Spring Mills and Wheeling Park (Apologize for who I've missed these 4 stood out). Is it possible South ends up outside the top 3 for the first...

For some reason, "wrestling enthusiasts" come under fire when trying to sponsor wrestling teams. We must pull together and seek facts first rather than go with "probably wrong", "probably illegal", etc. Although I do not know why Mylan pulled out, it "probably&quo...

AA-A brackets give the following message, "Brackets will be posted as soon as tournament weigh insare finished, and after each Round.Thank you for your patience.", I believe WSAZ results were the same way until the tournament started. I have no affiliation with the tournament and have neve...

Re: Baddest Babe Award

I posted the rule directly from WVSSAC, because I don’t want a kid to lose their eligibility over $25. I get that it’s a “donation” to a program but it is directly tied to the performance of an individual at a WVSSAC event and directly benefits said individuals program. I don’t know where WVSSAC/law...

Maybe now would be a good time to set next year’s dual championship date so schools can get it on their schedule. Your arrogance is why people don’t like south... you weren’t there, shouldn’t make that claim. Show up next year and see if you can win it. I bet they don’t. So stating facts hurts your...

To add a few more random statistics; 48 (43%) of placers performed higher than their seed, 28(25%) lower than their seed, and 36(32%) finished at their seed. if you do an overall +/- of top 8 finish with expected seed, you have a +87 (+0.777 /place/weight). Overall placers averaged 1.8 spots within ...

did Riverside coach go to meeting? Pretty sure there was no meeting involving coaches. Wrestler info was to be submitted to those doing the seeding I think. I don't understand the lack of consistent gap between weight classes. If Bravescoach7 is correct then the gaps between weight classes will be 7-7-6-6-6-6-6-8-12-13-30-70. Who is the rocket scientist that came up with this? NFHS takes data throughout the country and tries to establish weight classes...

Re: Forfeits, Evolution, Current State of Wrestling

First and foremost I would like to state that the dearth of participation in wrestling is quite concerning. If you ask any coach I'm sure they would tell you they would love to have enough wrestlers out that they would have to make cuts to fit in their room. I'm sure they would also tell you they've...
