Re: Rules and situations

Dave, you are right about the statement I made about the f word in your post. I was wrong as I thought I read it as that. I stand corrected. Brent, I used "in my book" only as a figure of speech. Not to declare that the rule book is interpreted by me as such. Whether we are agreeing or not...

Re: Rules and situations

So, the annual slamming and criticizing of officials during the State Tournament continues. Dave, in your commentary you said the the "f" word was used by a wrestler. And others also chimed in with their remarks about it. And one comment was about an alleged bad behavior by a coach possibl...

"Gator"

God Bless his family and keep them in your hearts and prayers. I can't say anything here that I haven't already said to him.

RIP my friend. I'll always look for you in "the 22nd row"

Re: Wrestling family

RIP Jeff Medley. A long time official and great guy and one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to know. I worked a few WVV State Tournaments with him and his professionalism was outstanding. As Coach Stump said above I echo his comments in that Jeff was an excellent official. His pois...

Thank You Studcradle. If a group or one person does something for a group of people then I am all for it. I was not pointing out any wrongdoing by Bearhugger or criticizing his efforts. I see by his reply above that he clarified how the money could/should be donated. Excellent! Just trying to help o...

Re: Baddest Babe Award

I applaud the efforts to recognize female wrestler and their accomplishments. I am not going to get into the name suggested for the award/reward but I would suggest that the rules about giving money to athletes at the high school level be consulted. If it hasn't already been done. I faintly remember...

Re: Call the Call

To me it is an unfair advantage when a wrestler is permitted to take advantage of a situation where he is not trying to pin, reverse, or escape from his opponent. By that, the official does not recognize that such a situation Is happening or chooses to ignore for many of the reasons mentioned by the...

Re: Call the Call

This is a good sensible discussion. Several accurate comments and opinions. Stalling is the most difficult call in wrestling to make. Think of it in this way. You are watching a basketball game. Any level except professional. Player runs into the defender or the defender blocks his progress. What is...

Re: How to become an Official

I could watch from the 22nd row. Don't know if I could officiate any better? Or possibly worse. Remember quarterfinals round several years ago Chris that you like to remind me about? I sure do.   As for how does an official call a match from the out of bounds or the perimeter? Very d...

Yep! Since we were both on the mat when he said it. Always a treat to work a match for him. He didn't believe in injury time.

Re: Faking injuries

Officials must give the wrestler their request for injury time . The official may believe that it is being used for a breather or whatever other than a real injury. When we receive our registration to officiate we did not receive a document declaring us as a Doctor of Medicine therefore we can't pa...

To all who may be reading this thread please consider the plea for more people to sign up to take the class for officiating. WV is losing officials for various reasons. Age, job change, family are a few of the reasons. There are classes held by each officiating board in the respective areas of the s...

Re: Controversial Matches

Sometimes it is difficult to determine the legality of a move. In order to do so one must attend rules clinics and local rules meetings. All controversial matches are subject to interpretation. It is even more difficult to determine the legality from peanut heaven. To do so one should spend a consid...

It probably would be a great dual to watch in person but I'll wait until tomorrow and watch the replay on the Big Ten Network. Besides several of us officials you know Gator are going to Cleveland in about 6 weeks for the NCAA's and that weekend won't be cheap either.

Ideally that is the way it is supposed to work. No mistakes. Referee consulting with the assistant if there is an issue with the clock, out of bounds, scoring, individual and team, and other situations that may arise during the match. I have seen it not work that way in the past because the SSAC gav...

Re: Teams Attending

The Cameron Tournament is a one day tourney. Cafeteria/concessions are available and good food by the Boosters/parents. Wrestling typically starts about 10AM. At least so in the past and the tournament is usually finished around 6-7PM. A very good tournament with some excellent talent.
