Re: Background checks for coaches and refs
If you have concrete evidence about a coach or official using illegal drugs, giving illegal drugs to underage/or student-athletes then it is your moral obligation to report that "evidence" to the local authorities. Not the WVSSAC. Not the local gossip mongers. Not the WVMAT Forum. If you h...

Re: Scheduling
The above mentioned tournaments have been contested on those weekends for a very long time. Occasionally due to several factors there may arise a weekend when there isn't a conflict. Not very often. The tournament directors have these schedules worked out for years. They will not change them just to...

Re: WV Wrestling Hall of Fame
Another article from The Martins Ferry Times leader on Bill Donohew. Bill will be inducted into the WV Hall Of Fame this Sunday in Charleston. While I agree with some of the comments on this thread about others who may be deserving of this honor the following words should clear up any concern about ...

Re: WV Wrestling Hall of Fame
" Regarding the five HOF inductees, I know who Troy Owens is. He was at Super 32 last year too. Although the other four inductees have probably contributed significantly to wrestling, I have not heard their names before. Ken Chertow? He was on the Olympic team". Bill Donohew was a state ch...

Doc Miller's health
The following is an email I received a short time ago from Dr. Welker. Hi Guys, "Some very serious news! Dr. Tim Miller had a heart attack today and is in critical condition! Please put him in your prayers. Dr. Miller has done so, so, so much to promote wrestling (wrestlers, coaches, officia...

Re: Dr. Bill Welker
I agree with FORTHEKIDS. This was started as an informative thread. I did not drag anyone's name into the dirt and was only trying to state facts. Which I did. A couple of the comments have been very supportive of Dr. Welker and we all appreciate those. And I intend no disrespect to others who have ...

Re: Dr. Bill Welker
I hope the following account sheds some light on people's concern and questions as to why Dr. Welker resigned as WV SSAC Rules Interpreter yesterday, may17, 2017. Gator. This is not a retirement by Bill. This is a resignation by Bill. He resigned due to a couple of factors. During the weigh-ins for ...

Re: Officials at States 2
Good one Gator. If the chronic whiners could hear the discussions that you, Chris, and myself have had over the years they would understand more and complain less. Probably not about us. LOL! It is if you know what you're doing. LMAO! It just irritates us when people bitch and complain and then prop...

Re: Officials at States 2
If you don't like the officiating get off your hind ends and actually do something about it. Take the class and try to officiate instead of sitting back and complaining about all the so called bad calls that were made or not made by this or that terrible official. If all the association Secretaries ...

Re: Losing is not an injury
Injury time is granted when the wrestler or coach requests it. We as officials must grant it. The rule states that. We are not doctors or trainers. We are not qualified or possess a degree saying that we know when a wrestler is hurt/sick or not. I do not want that hanging over my head should I try t...

Re: Shaking Hands
I am a big fan of the shaking of hands. It is intended to show respect towards your opponent. It is not mandatory except after the individual match between the two wrestlers. There are a variety of reasons why some coaches don't encourage this after the dual. Arguments can be made for both sides of ...
