Re: Switching Weight Classes and Win/Loss Record

The bigger question to be answered is: After a rule is written and in place, should it be changed? If so when is the right time to change it? If the coach believes it should not be changed, is he right? Perception My 2 pennies is there would be factors to be considered. Does a parent want the rule ...

Re: 138 AA/A - The Saga Continues

Something that is wrong 32% of the time is not solid. If you were taking a test, and you answered 32% of the questions wrong, you would get a D. Do you consider a D solid? Maybe you do. Most people set a higher standard for themselves. Okay, the rankings....like anything else are not a test. ...

Re: 138 AA/A - The Saga Continues

Based on the math you provided....27 top 6 ranked kids who did not place per year. There are 14 weight classes, and the top 6 place at states. That is 84 placing wrestlers. If 27 of the top 6 do not place, that means that 32% of the time the rankings are wrong, and 68% of the time they are right. P...

Re: Several topics

I don't think the ranking system on here is a joke at all. As a matter of fact, when it all washes out at the end of the year...they are a pretty accurate predictor for where kids finish on the podium or not. You will always have a few Cinderella stories and those that shock the state, and that is a...

Re: Could positively pay?

I was told by a principal that a school get so many thousands of dollars added to their yearly budget per student enrolled in there school by the state of West Virginia. Not exactly. You know my wife was a principal, so I can possibly explain a little. The WVDE sets "minimum" salaries for...

Re: Switching Weight Classes and Win/Loss Record

I am with bearhugger on this. Established rules for wrestle-offs and changing weights is important to team chemistry. When I was HC I had a clearly explained policy that winning 3 consecutive wrestle-offs resulted in that wrestler being named varsity for the rest of the season in that weight class,...

Re: Several topics

Nobody has presented that logical reason for the no, it's just "it's always been that way, so no". Your first mistake was asking for logical reasoning. To say that the rankings should then be taken into consideration for regional seeding tho is not valid. If you have been in seeding meeti...

Re: All State in Wrestling

I like the idea. I think it would be a good tool or advertising to attract some kids. At NHSCA if you place on the podium you are recognized as All American, so why not be recognized as All State if you place on the podium in your respective state.

Re: 138 AA/A - The Saga Continues

That's the same as saying the seeding in a tournament means nothing. That any wrestler is just as likely to win or place high in the tournament whether they are seeded or not. While someone can exceed their seed at times, most often the seeds are a great predictor of which wrestlers are going to pl...

Re: Several topics

Very well thought out post. My question is with the 5th place Regional finisher being used to fill bye/forfeit spots at the State Tournament. You say it has been shot down several times, but there is no logical reason given as to why. I think that is the issue for me.... I have no issue with being t...

Re: 138 AA/A - The Saga Continues

Since when are rankings used to qualify wrestlers to the state tournament? They aren't. My point was if you take the last set of rankings done before the State Tournament and compare them to where kids actually placed after the tournament, they are usually pretty close to on point. You may have a k...

Re: Switching Weight Classes and Win/Loss Record

Half of the weigh-ins from the date his glide path says he can make lowest weight is the rule. So if you can't make lowest weight until 1 February, and you have two meets scheduled before regionals, one of the weigh ins would have to be at the lowest weight. Cool, thanks for clarifying that for me.

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

I just spoke to one of the Committee members, whom I know for a fact is a huge supporter of the sport, and is someone I trust completely and consider a friend. He explained the process to me a bit more clearly. Being this late in the season, the issue will not be resolved this year. The Committee me...

Re: Switching Weight Classes and Win/Loss Record

I thought that a wrestler had to have half of their weigh ins at the lower weight class in order to compete at Regionals for that weight. I may be incorrect.

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

We need to find out the name of the state tournament director. Tournament Director is Bill Archer I saw earlier in the season that somebody from the WVSSAC ran the state tournament. The memo that was just put out on WV Mat, to coaches and AD's, about weigh ins and other things regarding the state t...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

Who needs to be contacted to make this happen once rosters are submitted for Regionals? Who specifically at the WVSSAC needs to be called or spoken to? Wayne Ryan is over wrestling, but I imagine the Wrestling Committee would have to be involved. Unless it has changed, the committee is Mark Delliga...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

The WVSSAC rules committee will not even listen this year and I believe the deadline to submit rules changes for next year has passed as well. We may be looking at 2 years out for a fix at this point. They only vote on rules changes once a year and proposals need submitted well in advance. And that...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

This isnt the first time there will be a bye at the state tournament. In the 2004 AAA state tournament there were 3 byes at the 103 pound class. Region 4 had 2 byes, Region 3 had 1 bye. That year Region 2 had a 5th place finisher stay home and Region 1 had a 5th and 6th place finsher stay home. Tho...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

Friday morning of state tournament as soon as weigh ins are finished. There needs to be a meeting (conference call) right after the regional tournaments and put a ...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

You're not rude. You're asking questions. The Wrestling Coaches Association (meets Friday morning of States) has to cover the topic and vote on it. Then the topic needs to be presented to the WVSSAC and they will either approve or deny. The season has already started, therefore getting the region f...

There are proper channels to go through and steps necessary that can not be taken this season. Please don't take my response as rude, because it is in no way intended to be that way... I simply don't know what channels and steps would need to be taken, that couldn't be handled by the conclusion of ...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

Another question. Does the 5th place finisher score team points at the state tournament? I'm guessing that they would since they are filling a void. You would have plenty of coaches calling "foul" if it wasn't a wrestler from their region or team. Again, I'm guessing....... I would say ye...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

You are correct. Spring Mills, Martinsburg and Jefferson have no 120. My question is what do you expect someone to do about it? What is the "fix" that you want? There are no JV 120 wrestlers to move into those open spots on those teams. I assume those teams also have no JV 113 they could ...

Re: The History of Cream

Again, I am not debating what the case was for Region I, and is now the case for Region IV. Not sure why everyone is up in arms now, but the fact of the matter is......it isn't right, regardless of who it affects. It wasn't right when it happened to Region I and it isn't now either. So as adults who...
