Re: Strength Training

Yes to both. Pull ups are a great grip strength, back developing, mentally challenging exercise. Rope climbs or inverted rows are actually better on the shoulder joint, not as much stress. The wear and tear of the season is already tough on the shoulder, and those exercises still work the back and g...

Re: The History of Cream

I am confused as to why "it's been this way for years" is a justifiable argument to not fix something. Just because something has been a certain way, does not make it what's in the best interest of the sport, kids, or state tournament. In all that I have read, the best idea so far is the N...

Re: Regional Realignment

Have you heard of the word, parity? When you stack the top 5 returning teams in the same region, some high quality wrestlers are going to be staying home while weaker regions will send wrestlers to the state tournament that some of the stronger region's wrestler have beat all year. It should be abo...

Re: Regional Realignment

Is there any possible situation where 5th place finishers, from Regions that have an abundance of kids, would be taken to the state tournament, this year, in order to fill spots left vacant by Regions that simply cannot fill those spots? If not, then why do even have 5th place finishers awarded at R...

Re: Spring Valley quad with Hurricane, Capital, Cabell Midland-1/28/17

I agree, Spring Valley was extremely hospitable and put on a nice event. The Senior ceremony at the beginning was very nice as well. Hurricane also was extremely competitive with both Cabell Midland and Spring Valley as well, and gives up forfeits in 3 weight classes. 39 CMHS - 31 Hurricane and 32 S...

Re: Attempted Abduction At Wrestling Tournament

This is why it is important for parents and coaches to pay close attention, or as close as possible, to those around their kids who don't belong. You'd also be surprised at the number of law enforcement officers, who coach or are parents, that are close by in a situation like this. I am a cop, and a...

Re: Team Ranking AA and A separately

What about moving the state tournament back a week or the regions up a week and only take the top 3 from each region and then the middle weekend have a last chance qualifier and take the top 4 from each class to fill the rest of the brackets eliminates the byes and gets the top wrestlers there regu...

The Laya/Hall match was awesome to watch......the gym was going nuts, great fans on both sides of that match. Both kids wrestled their guts out, it was a fun one to watch. The Long/Bozek match was also exciting to see, and the Long/Carman match was just as good. Great wrestling from all three of tho...

Re: AAA 138 by Region

Yet there are regions that cannot fill their weight classes for the state tournament with 4 wrestlers. I have seen threads that say there is nothing that can be done this year, but I do not understand why. It seems like an easy fix, some regions have a surplus and some don't have enough. Taking the ...

Re: New Regions AAA - WOW

It's really sad. The ones that get hurt are the wrestlers. You take a team/kid who puts in the off season work, wrestles, lifts weights, does the camps, and really stays dedicated. In region IV this may not be enough. You take PHS, South, Huntington, Midland, and Ripley.......for a kid from Hurrican...

Re: Region 4 AAA

One of the teams in Region IV is located right in between Huntington and Charleston, about 25 minutes from either one. That puts them closer, geographically and travel time, to about half of the Region III teams like Capital, GW, South Charleston, and Riverside. Also closer geographically to Cabell ...

Re: AA/A 126

There were 2 matches in AAA consolation rounds on Saturday morning that involved the official being in poor position and missing pin calls. Just my opinion that once you get to the semi final rounds and the Saturday placement rounds that there should be 2 officials. The officials do the best they ca...
