Re: 28th Annual MASON COUNTY OPEN
Any way we can get some kind of preliminary number of wrestlers already signed up for specific age groups and weight classes? Have some 13-15 and 16-18 age kids that want to wrestle this weekend, but their parents don't want to make a long trip for less than three wrestlers in a weight class... and ...

Re: Win with class lose with class
Indy and East are very classless. The ONLY people who would disagree are Indy and East supporters. This has been a common thing with East for 4 years now. Indy would never have acted like this in the past. East has some wrestlers who have been classless all season. I hate to root against a kid, but...

Re: Undefeated Before States
I'll throw out Amos, because it's a no brainer, and he has the easiest route, but out of the remaining wrestlers listed I would go with Frazier. I think he's the best Heavyweight in the state. I feel like Wharton will have the toughest time winning it all. Off topic and my disclaimer that I lean to...

Re: Undefeated Before States
Frazier hands down. Has a good shot at being a four time state champ... Which brings me to my next question. When are they gonna change the weight class around the 285 limit? These guys are getting huge and I don't mean fat. Frazier has a lot of muscle and being only a sophomore, he may have trouble...

The home hosting school had two wrestlers advance to the states... so if your theory of home cooking is true, sounds like it didn’t help them get more wrestlers in. I think you’re reaching a little.

Re: 2 things out of whack
The answer is simple. Do away with the WVSSAC. Schools have to pay to be members of the SSAC. Each sport should create it's own governing board with the coaches as the directors. Now you have sport specific individuals governing each sport. Just walk away from the SSAC, membership is voluntary. I t...

Re: 2 things out of whack
Absolutely!!! How can you justify Berkeley Springs being in the same region as Big 10 schools. Logistics along with the overcrowding of talent in those areas has to be reconfigured.

Though no names were mentioned until someone mentioned their own, my initial post was about some dirty wrestling which resulted in an injury to another wrestler, whether it was called correctly by the official or not, etc. Again, no names mentioned. Other posts that followed questioned how the progr...

Re: Sportsmanship
Bearhugger is 100% correct. In a perfect world that is how it happens. But refs are people and coaches need a relationship with the officials so a respectful frank discussion can be had when needed. When calls are bad, sometimes a coach pushes the envelope. Good officials know how to handle this to...

Re: Sportsmanship
My kid had a 1000 matches before HS, 159 in HS and another 100 plus in college so I have seen a few questionable calls. Not once did I ever complain about a ref. The only time my kid ever complained about a ref to me was after losing a close match in a big tournament semi when ref awarded the other...

Re: Skin issues
All true statements, and though ringworm can be contracted in other areas and it’s not a life long infection, it can be disastrous for a wrestler and entire teams this time of year... and that’s the main point here. Conference and regional time is here. Allowing infected wrestlers to compete and/or ...

Re: Skin issues
Good points... some parents and coaches need to take more responsibility in this area. I think most do a great job being on top of this, but there’s always a few. It’s just not worth screwing a kid’s or entire team’s season this time of year, so close to conference, regional and state tournaments.

A certain team at the Viking Smash this past weekend had several wrestlers with obvious, visible ringworm. The folks running the tournament said they had the appropriate medical paperwork to allow them to wrestle. You and I both know how easy it would be to fake the currently accepted paperwork for ...

Re: Question #1
The comment about age 14 going against age 18 was correct... for most kids, that’s tough. My son was freshman on a very good team this past season. He was good enough to play quite a bit of varsity. However, as the season progressed, his body began to break down from the punishment he took from olde...

Re: AAA,AA,A Team Rankings
Matcoach, I saw that that freshman heavyweight state wrestling champ was also a first-team all-state football player as a sophomore. That’s a lot to accomplish in two years. Guess you can do both well if you work hard enough at it and have the talent. Word on the street is that we will get the top ...

I don’t know if Fairmont Senior can remain in the top ten this season, but watch out for them over the next two years. They are comprised of mostly freshman and sophomores. Young and talented, but YOUNG! LOL And one of those sophomores was already a heavyweight state champ as a freshman last year.

At 152, couple of freshman to watch... Conley from Braxton and Scott Fairmont Senior. Scott has taken a couple lumps early on getting used to the strength as a freshman in that weight class, but has some good wins so far. Conley is giving others fits as a freshman. Both are capable of creating the u...

Re: Alternate Uniforms: Causing More Problems Than It Solves
Our team has them, and most of the team hates them. The kids said they look like a bicycle race team. The coaches don’t give them a choice when they wear them as opposed to when they wear the regular singlet. I don’t get it, but I am old school. In my opinion, if you are that worried about what a si...

It would be nice if we could get all this information at once instead of piece by piece. I hate not being able to have a plan in place for families and wrestlers. If this is the case, some need not waste money and an extra night in a hotel.
