Haywood Smith, a giant of a man. I played some softball against him in the day. One super nice fellow!

Re: Amos/Adams matchup

Both of these young men are great kids and wrestlers. I’m guessing Braxton will redshirt, but if he wrestles in open tournaments, both teams, I think, are scheduled for the Midwest tournament.

Another South great was little tough guy, Jimmy Weatherholt! He and Rich Underwood were as good as they come in 3 years of high school wrestling.

Re: Dutton Award

Had the opportunity to video chat with Braxton the other day and congratulate him on his awards and, as usual, he was very humble. He was to be in Wisconsin last weekend to start training, but COVID-19 stopped those plans. This young man is so focused on his goals and I can’t wait to see him at the ...

Re: DQ at States

As an Xcoach for many years and grandfather of the wrestler declared the winner of that match, I agree whole heartedly that should not have been a flagrant call, no harm done! Match should have been allowed to continue! As for the suggestion of a strategy being used, what strategy? If there were a ...

Re: Inconsistency of refereeing

I think it’s difficult at the state tournament for the wrestlers to adjust to different styles of reffing. All are different. The good ones are consistent. There are few really good ones and we are losing them at a fast pace. As far as the 220 semi match, that was a shame. Couple of shots to the che...

Re: Question regarding certified coaches

Because you didn't find someone listed on there doesn't mean they are not certified. I can assure you that I have taken all required courses every year for about 7 years now, plus I am just one course short of being an AIC, and I searched for myself and got a "No Results Found" response. ...

South’s coach Shaun Smith was COY and Braxton Amos was OW. That is AAA, not sure in AA/A.

Let’s just say that South won AAA and Point won AA/A.

Re: Question regarding certified coaches

I noticed throughout the season that there were a number of teams with parents in the corners that did not have the required coaches certification completed. So my question is- is there any kind of WVSSAC rule that states that all coaches must have the completed requirements, or is it a county by c...

2020 State Tournament

As usual, I’m proud of the South Patriot team for bringing home #24 and 6 in a row! 5 for 5 champs in the finals! Outstanding. Have to mention this and hope all young men and women from all teams know this: state championships CAN be won in the consolation rounds on Saturday morning! South had some ...

Re: Who has the best Coaching staff in AAA and AA/A

Lots of room for a biased answer here.

Any coach who sacrifices their talent and time for their kids is the winner.

If I knew all of them, I’d say the coach that stresses academics over athletics is the winner.
