Re: Wvywa 12 yr olds
Well if they are 12, they qualify for 11 and 12. If they are in 7th grade, they qualify for 6th-8th grade. So if they qualify for both, but can only compete in one, I think giving the parent / athlete the choice is the right answer. Or have a middle school 6th-8th tournament separate and earlier th...

Re: The State of West Virginia Wrestling
One thing I have noticed is that our elementary kids come through good programs and once they get to middle school, for the most part, the programs fall off and are terrible. Sorry if that offends anyone, that is not my intent, merely stating what I have witnessed. I have seen the better wrestlers ...

The State of West Virginia Wrestling
I have been reading a number of post on this site and there is some really good conversation and points taken from various subjects. As this wrestling season comes to an end, I can only really go from what I seen at the gym and read on this board. I don't have a child on a high school team yet. But ...

Re: WVYWA Championship, Who will come!!
Multi-sport middle school athletes unfortunately will have a hard time attending. Spring sports begin Feb 27. Practice usually after school until around 5:30 or 6:00. Can't justify then sending him to a wrestling practice for another 2 hours for 3 weeks. Homework comes first. There is also a game t...

Re: WVYWA Championship, Who will come!!
Personally, I believe the WVYWA tournament is the most difficult event in this State on a youth level. It's not for the faint of heart. I just hope that teams and individual wrestlers will represent and take part in this state tournament. It's truly about building a foundation in wrestling within th...

WVYWA Championship, Who will come!!
I guess this is more of a poll on who will attend this event? WVYWA changed the format for this tournament for the Middle School division vs last years setup. I believe 12 and under would wrestle ES unless you choose to wrestle in the MS division in last year tournament. This year If your child is i...

Re: Looking for Good Matches
Some school districts do not allow any travel outside of their county unless it is a county next to them and as long as it isn't overnight. If your kid goes to one of those schools that have the rules like that, then I don't blame you for keeping them to independent or club teams. I don't know why ...

Looking for Good Matches
I may get a few posters upset about my rant, But here it goes!! First, USA Wrestling needs Middle School Wrestling to keep the sport alive and introduce to new kids (I get that). But as a parent I have a hard time taking my kid out of a talented wrestling room with good partners and coaching which i...

Great Weekend and Event this past weekend at the WVYWA
Great Job to all involved.. It was an event filled weekend that has come and gone in a blink.. Eights mats in one room and being able to view all was amazing!! With 700+ wrestlers in attendance, I believe this tournament is off and running in the right direction. There are details that can be improv...

Re: WVYWA
Constructive Criticism;
Next year a better back drop is needed other than a marked up Cender-block Wall and more room for parents to take pictures...
Didn't notice anyone professionally taken portraits at the awards area...

Thanks for the Hospitality while attending the Cougar Challenge
A few members of our team ventured across the state to wrestle in a WVYWA sanctioned qualifier. A few different teams and wrestlers were in attendance which made for a challenging day. As a parent and a supporter of the newly formed WVYWA, I'm excited for the challenge that our kids and our state wi...
