Re: Mason Dixon Tournament
I didn't say it is never done, I just haven't been privy to it happening. I typically don't pay much attention to team scoring at bracketed tournaments since my kids have always been on teams with empty weight classes that were never going to be in the running for team competition anyway. I have als...

Re: Mason Dixon Tournament
Could someone please explain to me how team scoring worked? I was thoroughly baffled the entire time. How exactly were you baffled? Typically in bracketed tournaments team scoring is done the same as in a dual. 6 points for a pin, 5 for a tech fall, 4 for a maj decision and 3 for a decision. I have...

Re: Simpkins vs Taylor @ 145
I am always baffled when a ref calls stalling on a wrestler who is not winning. The concept of stalling implies that there is something to gain (as in being in the lead and stalling until the clock expires).

Re: AAA Team Poll
I guess the sting of AA team whooping you in front of your home crowd has worn off enough that you are acting like a child to make yourself feel better again. Let it go and grow up. You say that like you think AA/A is inferior to AAA. This ain't football. There are plenty of AA/A teams that can hol...

Re: Why have conferences for wrestling?
To compete at states you must place at conference. Your record only matters at conference for seeding purposes and if you are any good you will have to face the wrestlers you have been dodging anyway, assuming you were dodging them because they are good.

Re: WVYWA Regionals
From the Editor: Here is another question which came in my email: I have a son in X County who would like to register for regionals, but has scheduled to take the SAT on 3/5 – does he have to go to regionals for X County, or can he go to regionals in Y County on 3/6? Also, he has only wrestled in t...

Getting 100 Wins
There are a lot of "Congrats" posts for wrestlers reaching 100 wins, which brought this question to mind. How does everyone calculate 100 wins? I assume that everyone just uses regular season wins for their school team. Am I wrong? Do open tournament wins factor in? Does everyone do it the...

Re: Middle School State Championships
Another issue I foresee is will the wvssac be okay with another organization running the state tournament as they don't necessarily have the same agenda or interests. I don't foresee any issues there. The WVSSAC doesn't actually run state championships, they just make sure the organization running ...

Re: Middle School State Championships
I gathered that from the below post. But, if that is not the case, and it would be limited to actual middle school teams that are governed by wvssac regulations, then it would have a better chance. "by TJV » Wed Feb 03, 2016 4:37 pm WVYWA involvement would ensure that every middle school aged ...

Re: Middle School State Championships
The name of it doesnt really matter. Sure, call it the WV Middle School State Championship...because everyone in it is middle school age. But good luck getting them to sanction it as such when not all participants are wrestling for an actual middle school team, and thus not subject to their regulat...

Re: Middle School State Championships
I do not see any reason to get that WVYWA organization comingled in with the middle school teams. For the reasons already stated, a middle school state championship seems unlikely. But if they were going to sanction one, it would make a whole lot more sense to just sanction the WSAZ tournament and ...

The rules state base weight has to made one before the first region tourney, that would be February 14th as the last day to make base weight. Re: Middle School State Championships
Here is the problem with a Middle School State Championships. We would have to have a state championship for every sport. As soon as the WVDE and WVSSAC say that wrestling could have a state tournament. People will want to have a football states, basketball states, etc. They would also probably try...

I dont know who they are talking with at the WVDE or even who is doing the talking, but I know who I would be getting ahold of to make this happen or at trying to get the ball rolling. There is a Putnam County middle school wrestling coach that actually works for the WVDE and it pretty big there. I...

Re: Middle School State Championships
A middle school state championship would be fantastic but the hands of the WVSSAC are tied by the WVDE which is hesitant to hold athletic state championships because they somewhat attempt to follow the middle school concept. The concept emphasizes intra-murals and does not promote competetive sport...

Middle School State Championships
I just wanted to call to the attention of ms coaches an issue I keep seeing brought up...middle school state championships. They may not have reseeded as I know that just the day before yesterday they were asking coaches to email and confirm they would be attending. Would be hard to reseed until they know for sure who is or is not coming. I don't see any mention of reseeding on the main page either. They will probably ju...

Re: Has WV wrestling gone downhill as a whole?
Somebody already said this, but I am going to reiterate it. Coaches of other sports either do not promote their athletes wrestling or they actually inhibit or even forbid it. I have personally witnessed this. I know it is fact. It is wrong. A great example of a school system that promotes wrestling ...
