Re: Roane Raider Placements
For anyone who wants to go through the effort, these were the pools: A. Braxton County Capital Ravenswood Roane County Williamstown B. Calhoun County Fairmont Senior Greenbrier West Liberty-Harrison Poca So, when viewing individual placewinners, it can be deduced that all wrestlers from the same poo...

Re: Roane Raider Placements
To answer Bearhugger's assumptions: 1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Yes, one or the other. Complete head to head results would reveal which,.. but I'll leave reporting those to the respective schools. Regarding these dual match scores that get posted, this is not a true duals tournament. It is an individual pool t...

Re: Roane Raider Cup Results
We all bring what we have on that day and try to put our best foot forward. Most teams aren't 100% with their line-ups at this point. There were more than one or two good teams in this tournament. Braxton put 8 in the championship finals and placed all 13 starters. Perhaps the best thing to do is gi...

Re: Roane Raider Cup Results
Results were sent to WVMat. I'm sure they'll be posted soon. Team scores and individual placement is what you'll get. If teams wish to post individual head-to-head results, they should go right ahead. Braxton County won the tournament. One single scoring error I found this morning inadvertently awar...

Re: Anyone scheduling an alternative to WSAZ?
Since I started this line of questioning, let me say, I think it's a good thing to have options. Maybe a coach would like to make a scheduling adjustment based on the age of his wrestlers,.. or perhaps he wants to guard against board policies that discourage 2-day events that require overnight stays...

Anyone scheduling an alternative to WSAZ?
I have taken my team to the WSAZ several times. We've actually done well in it on a few occasions- better than most, I'd say,.. however, it does have it's own set of headaches. It is a kind of showcase, particularly if you have some spectacular kids that should meet their A/AA/AAA counterparts, but ...

Re: High school weight classes changing in 20-21?
I have almost 30 years experience coaching at the high school and middle school levels, so I've seen some changes come and go. I have a couple observations/opinions. I respect others' right to disagree. 1. Upper weight classes have gotten some relief and have had a couple classes added, compared to ...

Re: Call the Call
In my opinion, the bottom man should almost never be called for stalling in the situation you describe. Sticking in both boots and pressuring hips to the mat is a good start, but if the top man stops improving his position and does not make attempts to turn, then he needs to get a boot out and try s...

Re: Winner's Choice & Braxton Big 16
One could make the argument that reducing the size of these tournaments may not be a bad thing. If enough teams decided to break off, we could see 2 or 3 new tournaments pop up around the state every weekend, so teams and fans could have more choices about where to go. Other schools could host and h...

Re: Correcting submitted scores
You might also try contacting your coach who probably reported the results, because you mentioned the name Riggs, and I don't think that team has anyone by that name. The name reported on the results page isn't quite right either, because I think it's the kid's first name. Just look at other results...

Re: 2018 JCI
Not to pick a side or stir it up any further, but I think it's important to point out, since the number of byes is being mentioned, that these byes are necessary. Due to the number of teams and even using a special bracket, I think 10 or 11 is the magic number of wrestlers. On a 16-man bracket, 10 w...

Re: Are we doing the best we can for our sport in WV?
I can see Panther_coach's point that it should make sense to count a 6-way round robin or less as only 1 weigh-in, based on the fact that we can only wrestle 5 times in one day anyway, however, by suggesting a dual or tri count as .5 weigh-ins, I was trying to provide additional incentive to schedul...

Are we doing the best we can for our sport in WV?
Consider the following an opinion piece: Our current system of rules regarding how we count weigh-ins in this state has caused many problems: 1) Reluctance to schedule duals and tris. 2) Increased travel with fewer home events for each of us. 3) Increased tournament size, which requires 2 days and m...

Re: Byes at state tournament
Well, they would earn their way into the bracket just like the other actual qualifiers this way. To draw a 5th place kid in randomly seems strange to me. The pill just determines bracket position once they qualify- we have never drawn them into the state tournament bracket by pill. I have no idea ho...

Re: Byes at state tournament
Sounds to me like we'd just use "seeding" criteria to decide the one who gets in- head-to-head, common opponent, etc. Generally, overall record is a little farther down the list for obvious reasons. In most cases, I think it would not be difficult to determine. After chosen, I would imagin...

Funny thing how both the coach and the wrestler always seems to know when the scoreboard shows 1 point LESS than they're supposed to have. Also, I don't know many experienced officials who can't easily recount the scoring exchange of a 5-2 match. They are accustomed to going to the table to clarify ...

Re: Win with class lose with class
We can't have complete control of fan behavior, but we can have some influence. I won't name individuals or teams, but I saw several instances of good sportsmanship. Unfortunately, there was too much non-sense going on too. Throwing temper tantrums can't be tolerated. Throwing headgear, yanking down...

Re: Skin issues
And it's one of those unfortunate things where, when you do everything right, you can still get skin infections. Many people are carriers, walking around with it, and never show signs themselves. It seems a wrestler's skin is always scuffed and compromised, so they are susceptible. Contagious condit...
