Re: OVAC 2018
I finally saw an OVAC individual championship trophy. If the wrestling gets boring, I figure watching the engraver will be action packed. The best trophies I have ever seen. Very cool.

Can't Ignore the Numbers
Recently, I heard that a WV middle school had 59 wrestlers sign up for wrestling. Another WV middle school in a neighboring county had zero wrestlers show up. My sources are the coaches, so these numbers are true. Using these numbers and fast forward four to five years, one high school could have wr...

Re: a bearhugger podcast?
The first Bearhugger podcast is scheduled for December 21st. Gator will join me in providing color commentary. The first podcast will cover how to identify idiots on the WVMAT forum. They typically join "today" and then start posting non-wrestling comments on the same day to attempt to mak...

Re: 285
I do think the majority of heavyweights have at least wrestled at some point, whether it be pee wee or middle school. South did have a wrestler in 1998, Erik Spriggs, who never stepped on a mat until his senior year. He won his first match by pin and finished fourth in the State with a 20-10 record...

Re: 145
In AA, who looks to make an impact on 145 and/or 152? Although the line up is not set, Independence will be loaded at 145/152. Three returning state champions and a returning runner up & NHSCA All American will fill those two spots. The other members will fill 138 and 160. Berkley Springs has a...

Re: Anybody Know A Good Android Scorekeping Software/App?
Yeah connectivity is a big part of the problem. I want to use my Android tablet, which has no cellular connectivity. I would have to use my phone for a hotspot, which would be OK except 90% of school turn into a deadzone once you enter the gym. What I was hoping for was an Android app like Takedown...

Re: AAA 195 - An Intriguing Weight Class
What are the weight classes that may be loaded or empty in a/aa? At a glance, 138 and 145 could be very competitive as in "up for grabs". There could be quite a few state champions and runner ups fall here. 195 and 220 could be more on the empty side. Empty as in returning state tournamen...

no doubt about it i would send wrestlers to Greenbrier County 1. to learn from a legend 2. to use their landmine equipment between sessions 3. to protect my kids from murderers row 4. for a small fee I may be able to watch the east fairmont tournament from a safe distance on jw and phds website whi...

Re: Super 32 Winning % by School
Why isn't that interesting? I believe Oak Glen had 1 wrestler in attendance. These pecentages have no analytical value, nor do they show any trend in terms of team strength. So I am curious what, in your opinion, is "interesting" about these percentages. I didn't think it was interesting ...

Re: 285
Might we see the return of the 2016 285 state champion in AA/A? Has he changed schools? Indy losing the hwt will hurt early in the season but will be ok by state. Regarding Indy's 285 situation................who remembers "Big Sam" from two seasons ago? They got a few 285 prototypes in p...

coach_williams wrote:Looking at that, I would say 195 and 220 should be good classes. If that many qualifiers and placers land at 195 then I would imagine a handful of them will eat donuts and go up to 220.
There is good reason to delay the donut intake until March and stay away from 220 in AAA.

AAA 195 - An Intriguing Weight Class
Upon preliminary review, the AAA 195lb weight class could be very interesting this season. Here is who we COULD see at 195, their school and how they did at last season’s state tournament: Fullerton/South/Q220 Loew/Wheeling Park/R195 Wood/Wheeling Park/3rd220 Fischer/Cabell Midland/4th182 Wogan/Wash...

Re: Super 32 Winning % by School
I simply did the math and reported the findings to initiate conversation. Mission accomplished. I am fully aware that a school such as Wheeling Park more than likely has many of its top returning wrestlers tied up in football. It is also a long drive. On the other hand, Parkersburg South also has a ...

In this great land of opportunity, just what does a wrestler do?
Greenbrier East has Wade Schalles doing clinic on November 11th.
East Fairmont is having an open tournament on November 11th.
Do you go learn more from Wade or do you go test what you already know against Murderer's Row?

When you add up all the wins and all of the losses of each Super 32 wrestler by school, you have the following percentages: South 72% Oak Glen 71.43% East Fairmont 66.67% Musselman 60% Washington, Nitro, Frankfort 50% St. Albans, John Marshall, Huntington, Parkersburg, Greenbrier East and Independen...

It was a great weekend for wrestling and I want to thank all that attended and participated. Of those ...

132 has 15 of the top 20 ranked wrestlers in it. There is 4 state champs just from Wv. Might be why kids are moving down to 126. Did you do this same analysis for 126? To add.....once you hit that goal weigh, carb intake should come back up. The energy is needed for the grind of the season. To simplify, one could do what Noah Adams did. He lifted weights consistently, even after football and wrestling practice. He ate at China One almost everyday. Weighed 205-207...

Re: WV Wrestling Hall of Fame
For the group. I have re-read my opening comments and I do not see where I questioned any inductee's qualifications or not deserving to be inducted. I did say I had not heard of them, but my wrestling history is rusty. I do not recall anybody else questioning anybody's qualifications either. After a...
