Re: Wrestling season
If there in no practice until after Janurary, wrestlers should be free to participate wherever they can during that time with no SSAC penality. BUT , I'd sure get something official in writing from the SSSAC. Historically, other sports have been able to participate in private sporting events when t...

Re: Wrestling season
I say go club wrestling for now. That way even if the SSAC says no, it can still happen. I thought Big Jim shut that down as well when he postponed winter sports. Said no winter sports, biddy league, travel teams, etc. Big Jim has put out a mandate that is unenforceable. He cannot dictate to someon...

Re: WVSSAC Releases Wrestling Modifications
Note that the modifcations document states that the competition is limited to "limited to Duals, Tris, and Quads OR a maximum of 56", with the key word here being, "or". So how does that apply to bracketed tournaments? Mike, See my previous post about never using one of my ideas...

Re: WVSSAC Releases Wrestling Modifications
I just spoke with one of the coaches on the committee. First of all, teams can weigh in as many wrestlers on their team as necessary. This allows for substitutions, bumping up a weight, getting more than one wrestler mat time at the same weight, etc. Hopefully this example will help clarify the 56 ...

The document does not address that but I would guess there would be some type of quarantine on a return from an out of state tournament or one that is not in compliance with these rules. Just my interpretation though and not official.

Re: WVSSAC Releases Wrestling Modifications
I feel for the kids/coaches/parents/fans. Eliminating tournaments will effectively kill some programs as hosting a tournament is the fundraiser that pays for everything. I don’t know how many will be able to travel to duals and pay officials 2x per week with no tickets being purchased. Looking for ...

Re: Concussion Protocol - role of Tournament Director
I personally think the HS's should adopt the collegiate protocol. There is no time limit on the evaluation of a concussed wrestler. The wrestler is evaluated completely without the concern of time and if deemed able to continue they can continue with no penalty. Anthony was in a match this year wher...

I’m aware of county middle school policies but can someone point to a West Virginia county that has a blanket policy for high school? I know most require permission from the board for overnight or extended travel but have not heard of one that would outright ban kids from getting good competition. ...

Re: New State Tournament format
my quick research was from memory and the final “poll” was a guide. A-AA had 8 (1-2)in the finals and AAA had 6 (1-2) ranked in finals. That’s a 50/50 split. That tells me two things. 1 being the final polls were pretty darn close and the second being, the usual format (not perfect) but as good as ...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition
1. If they go to a 32 man bracket then the exact same number of kids qualify for the state tournament. Either switch to 8 regions and top 4 or top 8 from 4 regions. really doesn't matter. So there would be no decrease in the number of qualifiers. 2. When a schools population drops below a certain n...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition
Splitting AA/A to stock AAA just so there are one or two less byes at AAA states would hurt AA/A way more than it helped AAA. School size matters absolutely none. Team size matters. How many AAA teams took less than 8 wrestlers to regionals? I did not count, but I feel safe in saying every region i...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition
I would like to think to qualify for states, one should win a match at regionals. The bigger picture is this. Most of this discussion is concerning AAA which only has one region with 8 teams and 3 with 7 teams. While AA/A has 15, 2x 16 and 17 teams in their regions. I don't see any balance here. Ei...

I didn't totally research this, but.... The very first line on the Super 32 site states " You don't have to prequalify for the tournament". I believe that the main purpose to prequalify is to guarantee a spot before the rush to sign up after it is opened up to register. Someone who defini...

Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition
The problem is not with the number of kids at each weight, it's the number of schools per region. AAA only has one region with 8 schools. The rest have 7 schools. While the smallest # of schools in AA/A regions is 15, next has 16 and 2 have 17. There is no balance between AA/A and AAA. This is the m...

Re: Team WV Roster & Schedule for Fargo
In the past, we have not been doing a good enough job promoting freestyle and Greco to the youth. The biggest reason I have been given by the youth coaches is they have no knowledge of how to go about teaching it. The other reason is the expense. However, sponsors would and should help with that. On...

Is it the WVSSAC that actually makes the call on the pill? If so who there? I’m sure someone has contacted them before so what was the reasoning for not wanting to change it? It’s actually the coaches decision. They are opposed to seeding but are willing to use a hybrid pill. I think you may see so...
