Re: AA/A 152lb Rankings
It was 6-3 last week, but still a loss. Nice job to Clay for making the most out of the Bob Stover Tournament as possible. It moved along quickly, and you were good hosts. We hope this tournament will grow to the strength it once had. Thanks again.

It's all corrupt. If I were you I'd never go to another wrestling match or even speak of wrestling ever again. Try that.

Re: Seeding Criteria - WSAZ
Bearhugger, I think, normally, if one beats the other in a wrestle-off, that is viewed pretty much the same as head-to-head, no matter if it was an official match. When two kids are on the same team like this, it probably is understood that the starter gets the edge. Sounds reasonable to me. Maybe y...

Re: State tournament
Perhaps the assistant official should have shared authority to officiate, meaning that he can offer his judgement to the lead official. Obvious errors could be corrected. As it has been, the assistant is limited to being an extra set of eyes to point out locked hands or to help recognize when time e...

Re: Question #5
Coaches have had to eliminate a few "individuals" over the years. Trying to go it alone, forsaking your role as a "team" member is bad advice (any respectable self-appointed wrestling guru should know better). Fortunately, kids are now flocking to the sport since the 2-piece unif...

Re: Sam's 2018 All Class Rankings
Sam, here are some more results you might find useful: 145- Jake Whiting(RC) has dec Long (Hurr) 5-4. Davis (BkSp) has dec Whiting (RC) 4-3. Pretty sure both have beaten Alderman. Maybe Davis 4, Whiting 5, depending on where you think Smithson goes. I don't think there's a whole lot separating the t...

Re: EF vs EF
No, 'Hugger, that's not quite what I said. The state tournament is not the other tournaments. The potential to meet in ANY round, especially the semifinals, would most likely result in an easy win for the starter. Taking the loss here would be the only safe choice. So, no, wouldn't have to be the fi...

Re: EF vs EF
Regardless of my opinion, it occurs to me that it could be a no-win situation for the talented JV kid who actually did qualify for the state tournament. The starter could beat him rather easily and receive maximum team points if the JV kid lays down for him. On the flip side, how would you like to b...

Re: Less than 106?
98, 105, 112, but I get it. There were 12 classes at that time too. We once had a 215lb boy make it to the state finals in the unlimited class back then. His smaller size in comparison to a very big opponent did make a difference in the match,.. but, hey, it was the state finals. Every boy has to be...

Re: Less than 106?
Nobody said the little guys weren't getting the opportunity to wrestle to some extent. In some cases cited, they are the starters at 106. There are very few high school aged males under 100 pounds, and seldom is a junior or senior that light, except by choice. There are limited options for the super...

Re: Alternate Uniforms: Causing More Problems Than It Solves
Either you like them or you don't. Hasn't been an issue out on the mats for me yet. We don't wear them, but if other teams do, I don't care. Compression-style tops and bottoms can become more revealing than a singlet, so I admit I don't get that one. So far, the only thing I have against it though, ...

Re: Tough openers
Guys, that old saying may be true, but only applies once you're good, in my opinion. If you're better than most, and want to be the best, then yes, you'll have to beat the "best". I do not think it should be taken as an automatic formula for improvement though, unless you're some kind of m...

Re: Why Are AA and A Ranked Together in State Tourney Results?
The way results were posted made me think maybe A-AA team place is still as it always was and it's just that the A team champ is recognized. Are both A and AA really separate now? Really, I don't know- I'm asking. What I mean is, if a A team wins the combined class, will the highest placing AA team ...

Re: Enormous # of matches on records
Yes, it's possible to get beyond 55 matches, but I've done this many years, and getting over 55 is a pretty good trick. For one, nobody does wrestle 9 two-day duals tournaments and there aren't 9 two-day duals to go to if you wanted to. Maybe not 9 weeks of wrestling before conference, regional, sta...

IndyHart is very accurate to recognize these, but please notice that he does say "potential" match-ups. As a coach, and especially as a competitor, we absolutely must take these matches one at a time and not look ahead to quarterfinals, semi-finals, or any other predictions. Fans do this f...

Re: Last second weight changes?
I'm not one to juggle my line-up around, so I don't really care one way or the other, but I've noticed that I do sometimes have wrestlers that are two classes higher than their minimum weight on their alpha sheet. Sometimes they may think they're at their best weight at 138, for example, when their ...

Re: Last second weight changes?
I believe the language in the rule states "50% of weigh-ins at MINIMUM weight after alpha date", not "the lower weight." If a kid has been wrestling 2 classes or more above his minimum weight, sounds to me like he could drop a class at any time and make base without having been a...

Re: Change Rules on Dual Meets Counting as Weigh Ins
I agree that the current system is not conducive to duals or tris. Numbers are down, so it is more difficult to schedule a competitive dual or tri. Most teams will schedule a quad at a minimum because it counts as the same single weigh-in and you get more bang for your buck. Lack of duals/tris could...
