Re: Flo
I'm sure there are several outstanding wrestlers throughout the nation at the 120 lb weight class but WV has a star-studded version of entries in the Flo Nationals: Whorton (runner up 126 AA), Rae (champ 126 AA), Martin (champ 126 AAA), Hall (champ 120 AA), Lusher (champ 113 AA), and Wyatt Henson. G...

Re: YOU Could Make a Difference - MUST READ
To Bearhugger and others: The idea of implementing the concept of awarding the highest Single A team finisher a championship award is not a new concept. This was introduced many, many years ago by a collective group of coaches. This shows how long it takes to make changes. There are some changes tha...

Region 4 AA-A
Safe travels to the teams traveling to Calhoun County in the morning, giving just a reminder that weigh ins will begin at 10:30. We will begin wrestling around 12:30.

Re: AA/A brackets
Region 4 AA-A coaches met this evening at Calhoun County Middle High School. Most teams in the region were in attendance. Our brackets will be released in the near future, not sure the exact time and date. It would be nice if every region in both classes had a date agreed upon to submit all seeds th...

Re: WV Class A Challenge at Ritchie County Day One Results
Coach Allen Davis, head coach of Ritchie County and a large group of coaches that make up the landscape of Single A teams that wanted to show case the smaller schools in the state of WV made this possible. Teams with small enrollment but with big hearts. Most of these schools cannot field full weigh...

Region 4 AA-A
Coaches, spoke with the school's AD and he wanted me to remind all Region 4 coaches that Form 17 (Wrestling Regional Wrestling Entry Form) must be sent to the WVSSAC and a copy to Calhoun County High School by February 13th and your roster sent to Tim Brown by Sunday, Feb. 12. Also, a reminder that ...

Single A Tournament at Ritchie County
Coaches of Single A teams: I recently spoke with Coach Davis and was asked to relate a message to all Single A wrestling teams. He is requesting that those attending the tournament please provide a tentative line-up quickly, especially for those wrestlers who need to be considered a strong seed. The...

Cody Clark finished his career with 113 pins in his 4 seasons (2006-2010). That is averaging 28.25 pins per season. Not bad against a quality schedule during his time at Calhoun County High School.

A few weight classes could give us an early preview of state semifinals or finals. Gonna try to make this one if possible. Long way to travel for these old bones. If not, I'm sure some of the enthusiastic fans that support WVMat will be giving a constant update.

Re: Regional alignments
Mr. Londeree and I had a very good working relationship, along with Mr Ray. If I ever needed to have a question answered they were always on top of it and gave me an honest solution. As far as the regional alignments, myself and our administrators at Calhoun County submitted a format for the divisio...

Regional alignments
The more this season develops, the more the evident that the powers to be did not do their homework on how to balance the landscape of WV wrestling. My biggest question, when they hire new people to the highest positions that have control of certain sports, do they look for someone with past experie...

Re: State Tournament, Scoring, Forfeits, BYEs
I agree with Bearhugger, if Coach Bill Archer could run the state tourney, it would be a much brighter picture. Everyone has found faults with the state tournament but I know that Coach Archer has done things right, and the things that haven't been right have been out of his control. One solution is...

Re: Just wondering
In response to aaacoach11, not sure if this a new ruling or not, but was new to me. The years I coached I was never allowed to coach middle school wrestlers and was enforced by our school administration. I was told that practices had to be separated for sure. I'm sure that if it is permitted in wres...

Re: Just wondering

I was told that, YES, a HS coach could work with the middle school wrestlers from the same school (also youth...

Very small world (state)
Was heading to my sisters house, just a short distance from where I live and came across two men with a blown out flat tire on a box trailer they were pulling. Stopped to see if I could give any assistance and after getting son-in-law to go help out and got them on the road, discovered that one of t...

Re: 2017 State Tournament
I know that there are many out there that's saying that it just watering down with this decision. From my view point, its giving the small schools a chance to build a better program, bringing pride inside your school in having a chance for your school to win a state team title, and not interrupting ...

I agree Gator, these young men have proven that wrestlers do excel in the classroom, not just on the mat. I know these individuals on 'both sides of the fence' having coached against them and shared storied with each as well. Great young men no doubt. Spencer/Roane County has a monopoly for outstand...

Re: Time for 3 classes
My preference is 3 classes, eliminate regionals which has every one stirred to a frenzy with the new alignments, and take your team to the state tourney. With all the schools dropping enrollment, there may be even more schools in the future that will be added to the list of smaller schools, thus mak...

Re: Time for 3 classes
My thoughts, if a one class division is good for all, why are there only 6-7 states that have such a format. I am not against a two-division format, as was mentioned earlier, divide the number of teams in half to create the two. If three classes are decided, eliminate the regions and take all wrestl...

Re: Seeding the State Tournament - Hybrid Pill
I had a state champion with multiply titles that declared to me that he wanted his toughest match in the semis to take away the hype of the finals. He never cared a hoot about the pill drawn. Yes, sometimes the pill was not kind to my team and individuals but it is what it is. We all want a great fi...

The dreaded pill will be drawn at this time next week and to me, it is the most anticipated attraction to culminate the seasons ending. What upsets will take place in next weeks regions, which wrestlers that deserve to see each other in the finals will face off in the semi's, what exciting match ups...
