Re: Seeking Information
Bearhugger, I can't answer your first question you asked but to answer your other questions, yes, you are correct. But studies prove from all the youth wrestlers involved, numbers drop as they continue to the next level, which is high school if you are following me. Then college which the percentag...

Re: Seeking Information
Answers to the following are appreciated. 1. How many participants can a given school enter into a given track event? For example, how many athletes can XYZ High School enter into the 100 meter dash in a track meet? One? Two? Three? 2. True or false. In WV, the WSAZ is considered the elite in state...

Re: Just a couple of questions
Many people are talking about JV wrestlers and states. My first question is don't we want the best wrestlers to go to states? Before everyone loses their mind and starts talking about team scores and other stuff place a rule that you can only score one wrestler from each school per weight class. My...

Let me begin with the following disclaimer: this post is in no way meant to demean any athlete or program in any way. With the "dead week" coming to an end and States still nearly a week away it has given me time to research and ponder the topic of AAA and A/AA regional strength and size ...

Re: LCQ Example - Sam Adams of Independence
You do realize that there are plenty varsity wrestlers (that didnt make the tourney) who have also beaten some state tourney wrestlers as well don't you? Of course I realize it. We have extra tough regions and extra weak regions. That was acknowledged in the Last Chance Qualifier overview. Your poi...

Re: AA/A TEAM Race
I get what you continue to drive at. But maybe from a team standpoint, only those who end up qualifying several wrestlers ever had a chance at the team title in any case. That's the way it is in all team sports. Some teams never really had a chance that season. I know this doesn't address the AA/A ...

Sounds like to me you're making a case for recruiting. Just kidding :) . My case is to give the best the chance to qualify for the state tournament. Kicking tail and qualifying is not getting a participation trophy. It is entering competition and earning what you get. If a non-scoring wrestler(team...

Re: LCQ Example - Sam Adams of Independence
Young Adams could always transfer to another school so that he could get a spot. You can’t tell me that’s not an option given a couple of the names you mentioned of wrestlers in his way got to Indy by transferring and/or moving there. Which I have no objection to. All done within the rules outlined...

Re: Last Man Standing aka Last Chance Qualifier
I think just about everyone agrees that the regional alignment/tournament seeding process needs changed. But every wrestler already has an equal opportunity to achieve their dreams of being state champs. Each team has wrestle offs, each weight class has a regional tournament. It is on the wrestler t...

Caleb Rea, Placed Weir High School 21st overall, 16th in AA state tournament last year. It is great that Weir High School had a team. Otherwise, Caleb would not have been given the opportunity to compete. For the readers, Weir is in the toughest AA/A region and they have qualified 3 wrestlers this ...

Re: LCQ Example - Sam Adams of Independence
I understand where your coming from and I am sure with the scrutiny that Indy probably gets that everything was done correctly. I just think that the LCQ system your proposing weighs in the favor of a few schools who have larger teams with extra wrestlers. It is unfortunate for individuals who are ...

Re: AA/A TEAM Race
I am not sure how many schools had a wrestling team this season in AA/A. I do know that 55 AA/A schools qualified at least 1 wrestler and there are some schools that did not qualify any out of regional action. Of these 55 schools, only eight schools qualified 7 or more wrestlers (7 = half a team). ...

This is how PA seeds tournaments, its not that hard if you keep track of your athletes all season long.
Thank you for your efforts from PA to help the wrestling community here in WV.

Re: LCQ Example - Sam Adams of Independence
Just make it an open tournament, no team score, no seeding and everyone wrestles. Kind of like tee ball, no score and everyone gets to play. Participation trophies for everyone. If it was an open tournament and everybody wrestled, then the best wrestlers in the state would be competing. There is no...

Just for the record, at 106 Chris Smith had a 4-0 head to head victory over Boyers at WSAZ. Not sure if any of you all were aware of that or not. "Watch out for the ringworm!" Yes, I am aware of that head to head win and other head to head wins this season. Cornell also beat Boyers in the...

Re: Last Man Standing
The main reason I encouraged our Head Coach to take our team from PA to WSAZ's last year, was because it is an "open "tournament. its a small school with a brand new program. For the years I lived in WV, this tournament, as well as winners choice drew all the top teams, regardless of A/AA...

Heres a quick and easy one and its very simple math. Number of schools. AA Has 10 more . Send top 3 to AAA and bottem 3 to A. EVERYONE in with 32 man brackets and AA has a pigtail if needed. Seed the brackets like NJ Pa and others lead wrestling states do. 3 State Champions and teams AAA. 29+3= 32 ...

Not sure I fully understand all this JV talk. True they couldn't score points, but they could knock out other teams scoring wrestlers. So an already stacked team like Indy or South should be allowed to enter even more wrestlers? Here is a post from a different forum topic: I am not sure how many sc...

Here is a great example on how the Last Chance Qualifier could make wrestling great again. Freshman Sam Adams of Independence campaigned as a light JV 152 pounder all season. He had no where to go. Here are his teammates: 138: Tanner Harris. Two time state runner up and one time state third placer. ...
