Re: AAA 120 Travesty of Competition

Playing devil's advocate here.... 1. If allowing JV into states is the answer, then does that increase the complaints that wrestlers with a losing record are getting into states? To be fair, outside of a handful of wrestlers, very few JV wrestlers will be much of a contender at states. Is a body in ...

It is easy to be #1 when you .... With all due respect, how do you know how hard or easy it is to be the #1 team? "With all due respect" don't take a few words out of context and then use it to attack me. I know how hard it is to produce a #1 team because I have been a part of programs tr...

Re: Participation Study

High school wrestling has been on a general decline nationally for 8 years now, since it peaked in 2010-11. The last two years it has risen slightly, but overall wrestling participation is the lowest it has been since the 2004-05 season. I find it kind of interesting that it is suddenly an issue of ...

Re: Nationally Ranked Wrestlers vs. College Selection

I don't presume to know what is in Coach Flynn's head, but just looking at their roster, they already have five wrestlers at 157, two at 165, two at 197 (one of which is Noah Adams) and three at 285. in contrast, they only have one at 125 and one at 184, so maybe Flynn is focusing on adding more wre...

Re: High school weight classes changing in 20-21?

I don't understand the lack of consistent gap between weight classes. If Bravescoach7 is correct then the gaps between weight classes will be 7-7-6-6-6-6-6-8-12-13-30-70. Who is the rocket scientist that came up with this? NFHS takes data throughout the country and tries to establish weight classes...

Re: High school weight classes changing in 20-21?

All of this because of dual meets. I have had parents of wrestlers tell me they hate to make a road trip to a QUAD for just one match(concerned of forfeits). Can somebody spread some light on this "dual requirement" being fulfilled with tri matches and quads? I will not be making any trip...

Re: Ohio TOC entries

This tournament is great for elementary kids, it’s a money grab beyond that. 3 min matches for high school kids and only one period? First takedown wins essentially. It’s a tough tournament but it needs adjusted for the jr hi and hi school wrestlers imo. I was under impression that TOC is a takedow...

Re: What am i missing here.........

I took it as being a tongue in cheek jab at all of the things people use as excuses for not wrestling. Great that Ohio county thinks enough of their wrestling coaches and wrestlers to put them in a clip that the whole county will watch (parents, kids, employees all watch for school closings/delays)...

Re: What am i missing here.........

Wheeling Park has kids from teams, groups, etc do little videos for 2 hour delays and cancellations. It’s fun for the kids and I thought the boys made a pretty funny video. It’s a shame that the same people on this forum continue to disrespect student athletes and coaches while hiding behind a scre...

Regional Seeding Criteria

With so much talk about seeding states and the pill I think it is important to bring this up. The seeding criteria for each region is different. It should not be. A wrestler in one region should not be the #1 seed based on win/loss record while another region uses previous state placing as the first...

Re: Seeding the High School State Tournament

So with the hybrid pill the semi finalists would then be seeded regardless of the original bracket? So it would be an attempt to not have one of the "best two wrestlers" eliminated on Friday night from the championship? This might be helpful but would be totally dependent on the regionals...

This year I think it is particularly beneficial since this flu stuff has been going around. It gives time for everyone who has been sick to recover and be 100% by states. Nobody wants to see good wrestlers lose at states because of illness.

I noticed you don't have Meador from Braxton County ranked in Heavyweight. Looks like he is 44-1 and just won the AA/A Region II final over Williams of Grafton, who you have ranked 4th. Just wondering why. Also, at 44-1, I am wondering who beat Meador. His loss has been a subject of discussion for ...

Re: State tournament Records

You seem to understand math and percentages pretty good, so I assume you will also understand this. Moving teams out of AA/A and into AAA doesn't fix the problem, it just moves the problem around. All that would happen is the percentage would decrease some in AAA and increase by that same amount in ...

I have never known a coach to teach this. I think it is just something that certain wrestlers exploit because they know they can get away with it. Refs have to err on the side of caution. If a wrestler says he/she is hurt the ref can not force the wrestler to continue anyway. The ref could be held l...
