Dutton Award Rankings

The Dan Hodge Trophy is awarded each year to the United States of America’s best college wrestler.[1] The trophy is presented at the end of the season by W.I.N. Magazine (Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine) and Culture House.[2] It is the collegiate wrestling equivalent to the Heisman Trophy in college ...

Re: Hoke Poe

I agree with Poe. He’ll be a big 184. Some sites have him as a 197lber. You think Lawrence can make 197? He wrestled 220 last year. I assumed he was going to be a HW. If he could go 197 then I’d like to see wvu go after Kehler. Hoke Poe will be 184 and Rune will be 197. Both are big guys, but they ...

Re: WV D1 Roll Call

Are you running an Athletic Agency out of the Bear Tracks Head Quarters, trying to get these WV guys recruited and NIL deals? Yes, it is true that Patrick Jackson beat Shawn Taylor, but it was a less than impressive match by either guy. There was exactly one meaningful offensive takedown attempt in...

WVU vs Glenville 2023 / 2024

In terms of matches won and lost, what are your predictions on how many matches WVU wins against Glenville in this upcoming season?

Two seasons ago, WVU won 9 and lost 1.

Last season, WVU won 7 and lost 3.

Re: WV D1 Roll Call

Do I wish more of these great WV wrestlers stayed home and went to WVU? Of course I do. However, realistically a percentage will go elsewhere simply because they desire to go elsewhere. Some of that is due to WVUs limited success (for instance you cannot say with Gage Wright that VT is not a better...

WV D1 Roll Call

Straight outta West Virginia, WVU will begin their 2023 season with incoming Matthew Dolan and Erick Brothers.

In 2024, committed Gage Wright will be heading to Virginia Tech.

Recently committed Luca Felix is destined to NC State.

What are your thoughts?

I do not know about anyone's scholarship situations or their reasons for transferring out. It is obvious though the guys transferring out of WVU are non-starters and most are guys that used to be a starter and lost their spot. Other observations in looking at everyone else in transfer portal, most ...

Re: Early 2023-24 Schedules

I strongly recommend everybody tries to get into the Fallen Heroes event. Great format that produces 5 matches per day against the best under the roof. Rematches happen often on day 2. The typical duals meet doesn't guarantee the best wrestles the best. Also, they tend to be forfeit fests. Fallen He...

Colton Drousias has not found much success during his time in Morgantown so transferring to a D2 school makes good sense for him. Re: WVU 2024

Tudors actually has an NIL deal with the offensive line for the football team. So sponsoring the heavyweight would fit in that realm. I suppose they can always use that for an excuse when they get called with a false starting penalty. They can tell the coach that it wasn't their fault, they had eat...

Re: WVU lands top PA recruit

This is a fantastic commitment for the Mountaineers. I think the addition of Rune will almost certainly lead to another big commitment at either 184 or HWT in the next year or two. With Jordan Titus being in the bottom end of the lineup, Ty Watters and Brody Conley being more in the middle of the l...

Very good input there. The main concern I have, and every other wrestling fan should have, is why are they spending so much money on other sports and not the wrestling team? And why is the wrestling team not represented on the advisory board? If this trust was established to help all athletes, whic...

This may seem like a dumb question, but if the college wrestling season is essentially from October through March, or 6 months, then what does the coach get paid to do with the wrestlers for the other 50% of the year that they're getting paid for. And please don't say recruiting or fundraising. I s...

So one question would be, who is becoming wealthier, the collective and those involved or the athletes the NIL idea was supposedly developed for? If you go to their site, it says that 100% of the money goes toward the athletes. I don't see how that can be if they are an LLC, if 100% of the money we...
