Fayette County Schools Not Allowed to Hodt or Attend National Guards

Postby Geoswaff » Thu Jan 04, 2018 10:25 pm

The Oak Hill Wrestling team and boosters/parents have put in a ton of leg work getting the National Guard Duals organized and ready as the host team and this is their key fundraiser for the year. Fayette County Superintendent Terry George informed all Fayette County Wrestling Teams (Fayetteville, Oak Hill, Midland Trail) that they are not allowed to participate due to the school closure across the county on Friday. As an added bonus, Oak Hill was informed that they are not allowed to host the event either and have to give the sponsorship over to someone else. Here’s to the Lawyers and Bureaucracy!!!!!

Special rules for wrestling. No superintendent in this entire state would even remotely consider canceling a football game or refusing to allow their team to participate in a football game because of school closure.

The tournament is still going on, but another school is hosting it. None of the wrestling teams from Fayette County can attend. And here's the kicker the Oak Hill High School administration made Oak Hill pull up their mats and said nothing can be used that has Oak Hills name on it at the tournament. They say they're doing this because of the weather, but last I heard the basketball games are still going to be held

There are ways to fight back but none are fast. Petition for removal maybe one way.

This decision is a real shame for the parents and students of these Fayette County teams, that have no doubt poured their hearts into getting his tournament ready. I hope the issue gets resolved in their favor.

You have elected officials in Fayette County. Have one of the county commissioners let the superintendent know that he will allow the tourney or hold back their share of tax dollars that pay his salary. If they don’t support you then don’t support them in the next election. We had a tourney in Wood County cancelled a few years sgo and our county commission let them know that wasn’t going to happen. Things got resolved and worked out. I am sure there is hotel tax and restaurants that will be upset over the fact they are losing business.
