Teacher's Strike VS State Tournament

Postby Bearhugger » Sat Feb 17, 2018 4:09 pm

1. Is the state tournament still going to be held if indeed the teachers walk out and go on strike on Thursday and Friday, February 22nd and 23rd?

2. Will wrestlers still be allowed to compete despite their county's schools being closed due to said strike?

3. Will the answer to #2 be on a county by county basis?

Dr. Duerring from Kanawha County has said that Kanawha County will allow the wrestlers to compete because it is a State Tournament.

It is a County by county decision.

Putnam is being told their kids would not be as of Friday

At the rally the Union leader remarked That Coaches would be allowed to Coach games and hold Practices without any trouble from the Union if they wanted too, cause they didn't want to harm the players by having their seasons end.

This is great. However, the word is some superintendents have stated that if there is no school, the wrestlers cannot compete.

I imagine several wrestlers (teams) will not be permitted to wrestle at states if strike happens and continues, sad but hopefully this will not be the case.

It’s not a strike. Kids will wrestle. Sun will rise. You’ll stir the pot. These are the facts.

Hopefully you are correct. All media reports have made it sound like it’s up to each county whether wrestlers get to participate.

I’d be SHOCKED if a board of education or super kept the kids out. Absolutely shocked.

Political correctness has now infiltrated the unions. A strike is now called a demonstration.

Call the strike, a strike and demonstration are alike, tell the senior wrestlers to take a hike.

Fayette County kept their kids out because it was too cold to have school. Teams from other states made it to the NGD. The board even banned use of a wrestling mat that had Oak Hill on it. This caused the tournament to operate with 9 mats instead of 10 which prolonged the event. The prolonged event caused everybody to depart later when it was even more cold.

Nothing surprises me. Everybody that is circling their wagons is doing the right thing.
