EF at Winners choice

Postby Refuse-to-lose » Sun Jan 17, 2016 3:30 pm

Congrats to EFHS winning the overall team title this weekend at the Winners choice. East was lead by their two returning state champs as Cole Laya and Brock Whorton both recorded first place finishes. Also, placing for EF was Trey Hissam 4th, Daynon Foster 3rd, Dalton Michael 3rd, Cam Stewart 3rd and Daniel Hopkins 2nd. Congrats to the entire team for a good showing !! Hard nosed group of grapplers at EF........ ;)

AA/A. Teams competed well at a mostly AAA tournament. Had 4 of the top 10 teams including the champ East Fairmont and 3rd place Roane County.

Their 106 MCormick - Ranked 1st
Their 152 Whitmore - Returning state champ
Their Heavyweight Hicks - Pinned the #1 last week
Without saying too much ...
All were missing, I know 2 should be back next week, not sure of the other. One was injured, one had a death in the family, not sure but assume the other is injured.
Plus a couple more missing and several were out of weight class and trying to fill out lineup.
They are better than this weekend showed.
After all is said and done, all was said and done!
I have retired but not expired!

Is this the first time that a "AA" school has won this tournament?

Expect more AA teams to start winning more tournaments. The trend is continuing where there is little difference between AAA and AA schools in tournament competition.

Of course there will be even more AA schools next season with the re-classification. Participation is down in AAA. The kid who do wrestle, are getting better.

Don't get me wrong, EF has a great bunch! Independence has a great bunch. Few AAA schools compare to these two programs.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

Was Point Pleasant AAA or AA in the 2010, 2011 timeframe. If AA then they won Winners Choice one of those years.

That was a transition time for Point from AA to AAA if I'm not mistaken....... I think they were still AA in 2010 and 2011 though. Not 100%.....!?!?

Point won 3 consecutive AA/A state titles from 2010-12. They went to AAA in 2013. They won Winner's Choice in 2011.

With the exception of South and appears for a few years to come, there are several AA-A teams that will give AAA teams equal competition. Independence (this team is good) can compete with any team, maybe even South right now. Point Pleasant is back in the mix next season at AA-A and have, right now, the top middle school team in the state. Congrats to East Fairmont for their championship at Winners and for Madonna for their 4th place finish at the OVAC.

Ironic isn't it that 1ptforescape creates a profile on the day he has something negative to say. What are the chances that he is on here under a different name and just didn't want anyone to know who is. Amazing the size they grow to when anonymity is protected.

I am a long time reader of this forum. I came across some information regarding some items discussed in this thread and posted information. Wasn't meaning to be negative but looking back I can see why the editor did not want the information posted in this forum. Sorry for any problems.

Big Thank you to the folks that run this tournament and the coaching staff at EF! I have been taking my sons out of school to watch this on Fridays since they started in peewee's and to see my oldest wrestle in it as Freshman this year sure brought some reflection on how fast time flies! Congrats to his EF teammates and the rest of the teams for a job well done!! #rollhive!
