My guess is so the kids playing spring sports wont miss opening day. March 15th is when spring sports can start having games. Good luck to the Ripley Boys ( Morgan and Starkey), swing for the fences. I'll be at the ball field.

It may be because they don't want it to coincide with the state basketball.
