The 2019 Dutton Award is an interesting and tight race.
I see it coming down to these four men in alphabetical order:
Haga, South: Two time state runner up.
Hodges, Grafton: State runner up and state champion.
Lusher, Independence: State third place winner and state champion.
Smith, Point: State champion and state runner up.
Lusher defeated Hodges in 2016. Lusher lost 3-2 to East Fairmont’s Laya in the 2016 state semifinals while Hodges lost 12-0 to Laya in the finals.
Lusher defeated Smith twice in 2017.
The next two years will sort this tight race out.

Luster defeated Hodges, Luster defeated Smith, no state titles yet for Haga. Seems like lil' Lush is the favorite right now.

Maybe a junior will be in contention if one can excel on the national level.

Why don't we wait and see who is at the top of their game that year

I do not like to wait two years to talk about something that is happening now.

I'd call it a tight race between Lusher and Smith right now.
It will be interesting to see if any of these guys get out and perform on the National level.
I'd love to see them at Flo, Super 32, or even NHSCA.
I'd buy a flopro subscription just to watch them roll with National caliber competition.

I'd have to say right now Lanham would be the front runner. As a runner up he lost to last years Dutton winner on Simpkins. Came out of a very tough region and beat the same kids in the state tournament.

I overlooked Lanham in putting together the original post. I would also give him the slight edge right now. Two more seasons for somebody to take control and many to stumble. Hopefully the whole pack will make it a shootout down to the award selection.

If you're talking underclassmen on a national level... Braxton.

Braxton will be in the Class of 2020. Despite missing this season, I am sure he will be in Dutton contention then.

Does the Dutton go to the best wrestler or the best Senior?
Has there ever been a 3x Dutton winner?

We could have a very interesting Dutton Award race this season that could break tradition.
The clear leader for seniors is Huntington's Zane Lanham. 3x finalist and 2x state champion.
HOWEVER............Parkersburg South's Braxton Amos finished second in the voting for the 2018 Dutton Award. Amos is now a junior.

Get your bifocals on you sleeveless wonder.
The comment about Haga being a two time runner up was from 2017.
I brought this discussion topic "out of hibernation".
The forum just wouldn't be the same without you starting your "yick, yick, yick and yack, yack, yack".

Why would the runner-up from last year not be the clear favorite this year? Amos has the chance to repeat as an Ironman, Powerade, Region, and State Champion, all while probably not giving up an offensive point again this year. Seems like this is only a discussion just for the sake of having a discussion. If he repeats any or all of this, he is the clear winner. It shouldn't matter what grade he is in
