Why Are AA and A Ranked Together in State Tourney Results?

Postby coach_williams » Tue Feb 28, 2017 9:54 am

As we all know, this year single A got to be considered for a state championship individually. This is reflected in the results and AAA, AA and A were displayed independently on the team scoreboard at states. So why are single A listed individually AND listed in with AA teams on the state tournament scores? If they are going to get their own state championship and their own list then they need to not be lumped in with AA for a AA/A list. http://www.wvmat.com/statetou/17aa.htm

All this does is results in AA teams getting ranked lower while single A teams still get to be ranked high on their own list. Isn't the whole reason the single A teams got their own recognition because they were tired of being lumped in with AA teams?

Here is how the top 20 of the AA list would look without single A teams mixed in:
1. Independence (AA) 259.00
2. East Fairmont (AA) 105.50
3. Petersburg (AA) 84.50
4. Oak Glen (AA) 74.00
4. (tie) Point Pleasant (AA) 74.00
6. Grafton (AA) 69.00
7. North Marion (AA) 68.00
8. Braxton County (AA) 61.00
9. Herbert Hoover (AA) 60.00
10. Fairmont Senior (AA) 48.00 (ranked 10th, not 11th)
11. Berkeley Springs (AA) 46.00 (11th, not 12th)
12. Roane County (AA) 45.00 (12th, not tied for 13th with a single A)
13. Keyser (AA) 44.50 (13th, not 15th)
14. Nitro (AA) 41.00 (14th, not tied for 16th with a single A)
15. Oak Hill (AA) 29.00 (15th, not 19th)
16. Calhoun County (A) 28.00 (16th, not 20th)
17. Weir (AA) 27.50 (17th, not 21st)
18. Sissonville (AA) 25.00 (18th, not 22nd)
19. Bridgeport (AA) 23.00 (19th, not 23rd)
20. Winfield (AA) 22.00 (20th, not tied for 24th with a single A)

Thank you sir. I hate to create more work for you. I just didn't understand why they were together after all of the hoopla about them being separate.

The way results were posted made me think maybe A-AA team place is still as it always was and it's just that the A team champ is recognized. Are both A and AA really separate now? Really, I don't know- I'm asking. What I mean is, if a A team wins the combined class, will the highest placing AA team likewise be the AA champ?
