Two West Virginia High School wrestlers earned National Championship honors in the High School division at the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) National Open Championships held June 26-28 at Birmingham, Alabama. Anthony Regalbuto of Hedgesville went 6-0 winning the championsip at 135, while Hedgesville team-mate Bryan Moats went 5-0 and captured top honors at 140.

Ravenswood's Ashley Gandee was runner-up at 103, while Williamstown's Ash Wenmoth was third at 125. Greenbrier East's Joe Heath was 6th at 275.

Jonathan Delligatti, 103, Fairmont Sr., and Nathan Kinsley, 119, University, made a great run, but were eliminated one match before placing. They both went 4-2 in the tournament.

As a team, West Virginia finished in 5th place in the High School division in a field of 29 states represented.

In the 7th - 8th grade division, West Virginia had 6 finalists out of 7 entries. Leading the way were Moundsville's Jason Koontz (90 lbs) and Buckhannon's Blane Mayle (135 lbs), each capturing championships in their respective weight classes. Miller Jr High's Anthony Delligatti (105 lbs) and Mannington's Daran Hayes (125 lbs) each placed third, while a pair of Harpers Ferry wrestlers, Tyler Moore (85 lbs) and Daniel Schneider (100 lbs) took 6th.
In the 5th and 6th grade division, Mountain States's Alex Neal claimed championship honors at 170 lbs.

In the 3rd and 4th grade group, Sean Chichester (Williamstown, 105) was runner up and Morgantown's Michael Kerrigan (75) took third.
