Despite being very young the Panthers had a great year last season but it had its ups and downs. We lost 1st place at 2 tournaments by a total of 12 points. We had several injuries and illnesses. It also took a while to get everyone in the right weight classes and our lineup established. At times, the team wrestled injured or sick and continued to get the job done. Many of our first year wrestlers really responded in an outstanding manner. Their hard work and dedication allowed us to be successful this season on a number of levels.
Milton finished the season ranked fourth in the coaches polls for Middle Schools and 6th overall including Jr. Highs As a balanced team, we won our 3rd straight Cabell County Championship over a very tough Cammack team. Milton also placed first at the Cammack Invitational, 2nd at the Wahama Invitational, 1st at the John Adams Invitational, 2nd at the Hayes Invitational and Andrew Jackson Ironman Tournaments, We placed 4th at the Point Pleasant Pool Duals, 3rd in the Middle School Division at WSAZ and 1st at the Cabell County Championships.
On an individual level we had some notable success as well. The Panthers crowned 7 individual county champs in Seth Simmons, Nick Boone, Louden Goodpaster (3x), Zack Lusher, Colin White, C.J. Jenkins, and Lucas Doss. Placing at WSAZ were Alex Reimann, Ben Hayes, Seth Simmons, Lucas Doss, Louden Godpaster and Zack Lusher. Zack Lusher and Louden Goodpaster joined the Prestigious 100 Win Club. Zack had an amazing season record of 44-1 with his only loss coming to a ninth grader from Parkersburg. Louden finished his career at 121-19 and Zack was close behind with a career of 113-25. Overall the team racked up 573 pins during the season breaking the old record set in 2003 and had a win loss percentage of 83%.
Academically the Panthers excelled as well. An awesome 8 team members qualified for Academic All State on WV Mat with GPA's over 3.7 and another 17 made the WV Mat Academic Honor Roll. Our team GPA was a blistering 3.35 with 28 out of 31 wrestlers making the school honor roll for the semester.
The season ahead looks promising but we have much to do if we are to be successful. We return 17 wrestlers and 9 starters out of 15 weight classes but we will need to fill some open weight classes if we are to reach our goals.

Goals for the 2007-2008 Season
1. Win our county championship for the 4th year in a row.
2. Place as well or better at WSAZ
3. Stay in the top 5 middle schools in the coach's polls
4. Maintain our high standards of academics and sportsmanship
5. Improve our training, technique and toughness.
6. Finish the season healthy and injury free
7. Get each wrestler at least 36 matches
We expect around 50 to try out for the 30-35 spots and will try to field 2 full teams as usual. We are always looking for JV matches as well as Varsity. Whether or not we reach our goals will be determined by how hard we work and how much we learn. The sacrifices will be great but so will the rewards.
