North Marion High School

Huskies -- Wrestling

North Marion High School opened in 1979-80 as a consolidation of five small schools: Barrackville, Fairview, Monongah, Farmington, and Mannington. Mannington was the only school to sponsor a wrestling program, which was initiated by Coach Roy Michael in 1971.

Mannington claimed two AA/A state championships in 1977-78 and 1978-79, and Coach Michael was named West Virginia AA/A coach of the year in 1979. Mannington had four individual state champions and 10 state place winners before closing its doors following the 1978-79 season.

North Marion competed in its first year of existence in 1979-80 with Roy Michael as the head coach. Michael turned the reins over to his former wrestler Rusty Elliott, in 1983. Elliott coached the Huskies for six years, 1983-88, registering five individual state champions and 21 state place winners. Elliott moved on to Fairmont State College as a football coach for the Falcons and Michael once again resumed the duties as head coach.

Current head coach David Tennant took over as head coach of the Huskies after Michael's retirement in 2005.
