Directions to school: Exit I-64 at Beaver exit. Take Rt. 305 to stoplight at Beaver (about two miles). Turn left on Rt. 19 and follow Rt 19 south to Shady Spring, about 5 miles. Turn left onto Rt 3 East for approximately one mile. School is on the right.

For 2007-08, Coach Danny Carter will continue to head the program at Shady. Coach Carter is a former SSSHS wrestler (1982-84), having wrestled under Coach Dix Manning and Coach Snuffer. Carter headed the Junior High Program from 1991, until becoming the Shady Spring assistant in 1998.

Shady Spring High School has the wrestling credentials to make anyone's list of top West Virginia High School wrestling programs. Coach Dix Manning (AA/A Coach of the year 1981, 1987) began his tenure at Shady Spring in 1957 and until his retirement in 1998 produced ...

-- State championship teams in 1963, 1964, 1980, 1981, and 1987
-- State runner up team in 1986
-- Seventeen regional championships (including 10 in a row)
-- Fifteen Coalfield Conference championships
-- Over 300 dual meet victories, and
-- 25 individual state champions.

Coach Manning literally coached two generations of athletes at Shady Spring -- Bill Lester (champion 103 lbs, 1959) and his son Jeff Lester (champion 105 lbs, 1984). Manning was a charter inductee in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, West Virginia chapter.
