NO. 12 HILLTOPPERS TAKE DOWN WAYNESBURG

December 7, 2012

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The No. 12 West Liberty University wrestling team took its national ranking on the road Friday night and returned home with a 22-14 victory against Waynesburg (Pa.) University.

The NCAA Division III Yellowjackets put up a spirited fight but Coach Brian Davis's Hilltoppers (2-0) remained unbeaten on the young season, winning six of the 10 matches and padding the margin with a first-period fall and a major decision.

Preston Foster got the visitors off to a fast start with a 3-0 decision at 125 pounds and the Hilltoppers took the lead for good when 149-pound standout Nick Wykoff ended his bout with a fall at 2:22.

Art Hobley (157), Mike Emery (165) and Derrick Williams (184) helped stretch the advantage with three more wins and Matt Carpenter wrapped things up with a 13-1 major decision in the 285-pound match.

The West Liberty wrestling team heads to the midwest next weekend for the annual Midwest Classic, a two-day meet hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
