Fall on Senior Night

February 14, 2014

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University wrestling team battled back after a slow start only to fall short in a 24-12 loss to visiting Gannon on Senior Night at the ASRC.

The Golden Knights (7-4) won the first five matches to jump out to a 17-0 lead before Mike Emery got the Hilltoppers (4-4) on the board, battling Casey Pace into overtime before prevailing in the first tiebreaker.

West Liberty's Eric Antesberger followed with a shutout win at 174 pounds, cutting the deficit to 17-6, but Gannon put the match out of reach with back-to-back wins at 184 and 197.

Aaron Silverio finished the night on a high note for the Hilltoppers with a second-period pin of the Golden Knights' Nick Budd.

The West Liberty wrestling program honored senior grapplers Dillon Nolte and Bryan Skoff in a brief ceremony prior to the match. Nolte was unable to compete on Friday due to an injury suffered earlier this week at No. 17 Ashland.

The Hilltoppers return to action Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. match at Seton Hill in Greensburg, Pa.
