Hilltoppers Fall to No. 3 Notre Dame

January 31, 2015

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University wrestling team put up a good fight against defending national champion Notre Dame (Ohio) but couldn't close the deal as the No. 3-ranked Falcons picked up a couple of late technical falls to close out the Black and Gold by a 25-9 score at the ASRC.

Zach Brown got WLU off to a fast start with an 8-6 win at 125 pounds but Notre Dame reeled off five straight decisions to take a 15-3 lead into the final four matches. Eric Antesberger kept West Liberty's upset hopes alive with a 5-1 victory at 174, cutting the margin to 15-6, but the Falcons notched technical falls at 184 and 197 to put the match out of reach.

Hilltopper heavyweight Aaron Silverio gave the home fans something to smile about when he closed out the afternoon with an overtime win at 285. West Liberty hits the road on Friday for a 5 p.m. dual at Millersville (Pa.).
