WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The West Liberty University wrestling team wrapped up its regular season schedule on a high note here Wednesday night, leading wire-to-wire in a 22-18 win on Senior Night at Waynesburg University.

Coach Mitch Smith's Hilltoppers won four of the first five matches to open up a 13-6 lead midway through the dual.

The host Yellowjackets pulled out narrow one-point decisions in two of the next three bouts to trail just 16-12 heading into the final two matches but 197-pounder Logan Kemp clinched it for WLU with a first-period fall.

Corey Secrist (125), DeAndre Reed (141), Miles Mazik (149) and Chance Morgan (174) came through with decision wins for the Black and Gold while senior Josh Cornell posted his second straight major decision at 157 pounds, dominating the third period in a 13-3 romp past Zach Mackall.

Kemp, the No. 6-ranked 197-pounder in the NCAA Division II ranks, lived up to that billing in the clincher. The West Liberty junior rocketed out to a 10-0 lead less than a minute after the opening whistle before hearing the referee slap the mat in 1:03.

This was West Liberty's final tuneup before hosting the 2019 NCAA Division II Super Region 3 championships. The one-day event is set for Feb. 23 in the ASRC arena on the Hilltopper campus.
