KEHLER TO MISS NWCA ALL-STAR CLASSIC

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (January 23, 2001) – West Virginia heavyweight wrestler Ryan Kehler will miss the NWCA All-Star Classic January 29 at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., after having undergone surgery on his right knee today.

According to WVU trainer Kevin Kotsko, the Klingerstown, Pa., native had surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee. Part of the meniscus was completely removed as well.

Kehler is expected to return for the home dual meet against Virginia Tech, February 3, at the Coliseum, at 7:30 p.m.

"It's unfortunate that Ryan can't participate in the classic," coach Craig Turnbull said. "It's such a great honor for him to be invited. But he needed to have this done. It had been bothering him for a while. The timing was perfect in our schedule now that we have two weeks off until Virginia Tech. This move will help him in the long run as the season winds down."
