JONES NAMED EWL WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 11, 2002) * West Virginia University wrestler Greg Jones was named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) wrestler of the week for his efforts against No.16 Lock Haven and Virginia Tech last weekend. WVU is now 8-2 on the year and 4-0 in the EWL.

Jones, a redshirt freshman from Slickville, Pa., ranked third in the nation at 174, defeated Lock Haven's Ed Pawlak 10-5 to help lead the Mountaineers to a 19-12 decision over the Bald Eagles. At Virginia Tech, Jones pinned Tomas Ovalle in 2:15 to help WVU hand the Hokies a 29-9 defeat. Jones is 22-2 on the year and is now fourth on WVU's all-time wins list for freshmen.

Jones is the third WVU wrestler to earn EWL wrestler of the week honors. Shane Cunanan and Ryan Wilman earned the honor earlier this season.
