Theme Nights Announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. * West Virginia wrestling fans can watch the 12th-ranked Mountaineers take to the mat while also enjoying several theme nights for all home matches this season.

WVU has once again put together a competitive home schedule with the opener slated for Saturday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m., against 13th-ranked Penn State. During "Break the Record Night" fans can pack the WVU Coliseum as the Nittany Lions come to town. An exciting dual match is anticipated as PSU returns two All-Americans from a team that finished sixth at the 2003 NCAAs.

The Mountaineers open up Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) action against Bloomsburg on Sunday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. This EWL contest is also "Autograph Day" where fans will have the opportunity to receive autographs from their favorite WVU wrestlers and coaches following the meet.

West Virginia then plays host to Clarion for an EWL contest on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. The Mountaineers will host "Student Day" when facing the Golden Eagles. A youth clinic with be conducted prior to the Clarion meet by WVU assistant and Olympic freestyle coach Zeke Jones.

The Mountaineers host neighboring rival, Pitt, in an EWL battle on Sunday, Feb. 6, at 8 p.m. "Alumni Night" is the theme as several former Mountaineer athletes and graduates will be in attendance. The Panthers return six lettermen, including four NCAA qualifiers, for 2003-04.

The final home match is against conference-foe Lock Haven on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. Come out and support the Mountaineer seniors who have put in years of hard work during "Senior Night." Lock Haven returns three NCAA qualifiers, including the EWL Freshman Wrestler of the Year, Morgan Horner.

Internet radio broadcast will again be offered through Yahoo! Sports. Kyle Wiggs and former Mountaineer grappler, Tony Onorato, will call the wrestling action.
