MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University wrestler Jared Villers placed sixth and two other Mountaineers faired well at the FILA Junior Freestyle National Championships on Friday, in Lincoln, Neb.

Villers, competing for the Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club, posted a 4-3 record and dropped his fifth-place match to Mike Schmidt (Minnesota Storm), earning sixth place honors at 96 KG/211.5-pounds.

True freshman Zac Fryling also gave a strong performance over the weekend. Fryling, an NCAA qualifier, won his first match by technical fall and tallied a 2-2 record at 74 KG/163-pounds.

“There was a lot of good competition out here,” says Fryling. “Jared and Nino both wrestled well this weekend. It is important to get some quality matches in during the summer months. Right now we are looking forward to getting back to work in Morgantown.”

Nino Paglia, who redshirted the 2004 season, also wrestled for Sunkist during weekend competition. Paglia won two matches in posting a 2-2 record at 60 KG/132-pounds.

In years past, champions have qualified for the FILA Junior World Championships. However, this being an Olympic year, there will be no FILA Junior World Championships.
