EDINBORO, Pa. -- The West Virginia University wrestling team fell to Edinboro, 40-5, on Saturday, Feb. 18, at McComb Fieldhouse in Edinboro, Pa.

The Mountaineers (5-6, 4-1 EWL) could never get any momentum on the evening as the Fighting Scots (12-0, 6-0 EWL) won nine of the 10 bouts en route to their second undefeated in school history.

After Edinboro took the 125 and 133-pound bouts, freshman 141-pounder Brandon Rader got WVU on the board with a dominating 18-3 technical fall against Rick McLaughlin. The Parkersburg, W.Va., native led from the start, mounting a 10-1 lead through the first period. Rader added six points in the second period and ended the match early in the third with his fifth takedown.

Rader moved into a tie with Brent Miller for wins in a season as a freshman with 22 so far in 2006. He needs just three more wins to break into the top five in the record book.

Rader’s win would stand as the lone victory for West Virginia on the evening as Edinboro rattled off six consecutive victories to close out the meet.

The Mountaineers will look to rebound tomorrow as they face Cleveland State in Cleveland at Woodling Gymnasium. Wrestling begins at 3 p.m.
