BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The West Virginia University wrestling team dropped a tough dual meet on the road to Bloomsburg, 22-15, in Bloomsburg, Pa., on Saturday, Jan. 20, at Nelson Field House.

An injury plagued Mountaineer lineup was unable to come up with key victories in the dual as the Huskies (8-7, 2-0) ended a five-match losing streak to WVU (1-3, 0-1).

West Virginia failed to pick up any steam in the dual as Bloomsburg won six of the 10 bouts in the dual meet.

Bloomsburg claimed the first two bouts of the day before West Virginia’s 141-pounder Brandon Rader claimed his 13th victory of the season by way of a 14-4 major decision over Darren Kern. The Parkersburg, W.Va., did not allow an offensive point in the match, while recording two takedowns, a reversal and five near fall points.

Rader is now 13-1 on the season with his lone loss coming due to a medical forfeit at the Las Vegas Invitational.

The Mountaineers got their next win at the 157-pound weight class when Zac Fryling won a 10-6 decision over Dennis Bermudez. Teammate Kurt Brenner (174) picked up a decision of his own when he downed Andrew Jordan, 9-8.

Jared Villers (197) kept the bout close as he tallied a 21-4 technical fall in his bout against PJ DiStefano. The Akron, Ohio, native dominated from the opening whistle by scoring two reversals, a takedown and 12 near fall points, while also wracking up 2:49 in riding time.

The Mountaineers could not get any closer than 19-15, though in the team score as Mike Spaid defeated Dustin Rogers 3-2 to put the dual away.

WVU will look to get back on track when it continues EWL wrestling action against Clarion in Clarion, Pa., at W.S. Tippin Gym beginning at 2 p.m.
