MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University wrestling team closed out its 2007 dual meet season on Sunday, Feb. 18, by defeating EWL foe Cleveland State, 38-6, at the WVU Coliseum.

“We wanted to make sure that we didn’t have any letups after Thursday night and I think our guys did well,” said WVU coach Craig Turnbull.

The Mountaineers (5-5, 4-2 EWL) won eight of the 10 bouts on the afternoon to come away victorious. All-American Brandon Rader (141) returned to the line-up after missing the last three duals and responded by pinning 2006 NCAA qualifier Mike Hurley in 5:44.

Former Parkersburg High teammate Chance Litton (184) tallied a pin for West Virginia as well as he defeated CSU’s David Gilkey in 4:46. The pin was the second of this season for Litton and his first career pin in a dual meet.

Zac Fryling came up big in the 157-pound match when he scored a technical fall against Shaun Mitchell by a score of 22-7. The Lansdale, Pa., native jumped out to a 15-5 lead through the first period thanks to six takedowns and three points for a near fall. He ended the match at the 4:02 mark with his ninth takedown of the bout.

Heavyweight Dustin Rogers won his third consecutive match as he downed Rashard Goff 5-2, while 197-pounder Jared Villers scored a 4-3 decision over Chris Hahn. The win for Villers is his eighth consecutive.

Mark Anderson (133) and Kurt Brenner (174) both won by forfeit.

The 38 points scored on the day ties WVU’s season high against Clarion on Jan. 21. Cleveland State (10-5, 3-3 EWL) entered the match Sunday winning seven of its previous nine.

The Mountaineers get some time to rest now before the EWL tournament on March 3-4 in Cleveland, Ohio, at CSU’s Woodling Gym.
