MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University head wrestling coach Craig Turnbull today announced the signing of two recruits for the 2007-08 season.

Grapplers Grant Lowther (Washington Pa./Trinity) and Ryan Goodman (Latrobe, Pa., Greater Latrobe) have inked national letters of intent to join the Mountaineers next fall.

“We are excited to have Grant and Ryan joining our program next fall,” says Turnbull. “We feel like both of these wrestlers have flown under the radar during the careers and we are very fortunate to get them during the early signing period. Both are kids of great character that will add to our team athletically as well in the classroom.”

Lowther sports a career record of 100-28 and is a three-time section champion and 2006 WPIAL champion from Trinity High in Washington, Pa. The honor roll student finished fifth at states last season and also won the prestigious Powerade tournament. Lowther is projected to wrestle at 133-lbs. for West Virginia.

“I thought the campus was nice and I felt at home,” says Lowther on his decision to come to WVU. “They also have a great coaching staff and facilities. There have been a lot of great former WPIAL wrestlers that have went on to do very well at West Virginia.”

Goodman enters his senior season with a career record of 105-18 and boasts the first PIAA state championship in his school’s history. He also owns three section championships as well as the 2006 WPIAL championship at the 152-lbs. class. The Latrobe, Pa., native owns titles at the 2006 King of the Mountain and the 2006 Westmoreland County tournaments. Goodman currently ranks fifth in his weight class by Pennsylvania Wrestling. He also wrestles for Quest Wrestling Club coached by former Mountaineer All-American Jim Akerly. He is projected as a 157-pounder in college.

“I knew the Jones family and the campus and I felt the school would be the perfect fit for me,” says Goodman.
