Rogers Named to NWCA All-Academic Division I Team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 4, 2009) – West Virginia University wrestler Dustin Rogers has been named to the 2008-09 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Academic Division I Team, announced today.

A Corning, Calif., native, Rogers is working toward achieving his master’s degree in athletic coaching education, which he will complete in May of 2010. Through the 2008 summer and fall semesters, Rogers accumulated a 3.4 grade-point average to earn a spot on the prestigious team.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized for not only athletics, but academics as well,” Rogers said.

Rogers concluded his four-year at WVU with a 52-25 mark, posting a 20-7 record in 2008-09. He took third place at the 2009 Eastern Wrestling League Championships and qualified for his third NCAA Tournament. Rogers became only one of 24 Mountaineers to qualify for the national tournament at least three times in program history.

Individually, wrestlers must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of his total schedule – and must have competed in at least 60 percent of said schedule. The other way to qualify for the All-Academic team is have a 3.0 cumulative and been an NCAA All-American.

The last Mountaineer to be named to the NWCA All-Academic Team was Matt Lebe in 2006.
